Chapter 25: Doctor Time

Shailene P.O.V
I walked into the front door of school. Everyone's eyes were glued to me and my pudgy belly. I had gained about ten pounds in four months of being pregnat.

I walked over quickly to my locker and entered the combination. When it opened, I threw the books I didn't need inside and kept the ones I needed in my bookbag. Taylor came up behind me.

"Hey Shay!" She touched my belly. "How are you two?"

"Fine. I actually have a doctors appointment today." I informed her.

"Are you going to find out what your having?" She seemed excited.

"Maybe. I invited Brett to come, too." I smiled to myself while she looked lost.

"I'm sorry, what? You invited Brett?" She practically yelled.

"He came over my house last night and told me he wanted to be apart of the baby's life." I said as the bell rang.

"We'll talk later!" She yelled and walked away.

I closed my locker and saw Marissa and Brett kissing against his locker. Megan soon walked by and rolled her eyes at them. Marissa looked at me, grinned, the continued to kiss Brett.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

My phone beeped from inside my bag. I looked at a message from my mom as I walked to class.

Mom: I'll pick you up at 11:00.

I ignored her message and went to class.

I got my last book from my locker and met up with my mom in the office. We set off for the OBGYN office.

We sat in the waiting room, counting the minutes I waited to go inside a room.

"Shailene?" The doctor called me.

I got up and followed her to a room. She told me to sit down on the bed, so I did. I kicked my feet around as she took blood from me, checked my blood pressure, temperature, and listened to my lungs.

"Nice job, Shailene. Your as healthy as ever!" She said inthusiactically.

She turned out the lights and pulled a machine over to the bed I was in. She helped me lay down on my back.

"Ready?" She asked. I nodded.

I pulled up my shirt and waited for her to start her job.

"This is going to be a little cold." She warned.

She squirted out the freezing gel onto my belly and began pressing against my belly with an object that was attacked to the machine.

I looked over at the monitor and saw a small baby on the screen. I heard a faint thump and few secands, a heartbeat. The small baby moved his/her hands around on the screen. The doctor took a few pictures for me to keep.

"Well Shay, it's too early to tell if it's a boy or a girl yet. Maybe next week." I smiled at the screen. Seeing my baby on a screen and hearing it's heartbeat for the first time was magical.

She pulled the object off my belly, removing the picture of the baby from the screen. She wipped the gel off my belly and handed me the sonogram pictures. I looked at them on the ride home and when I got home.
