We ride for a long time and when it finally gets dark, we stop and head a little bit farther up the beach where the cliff meets the sand. I get off Delilah. She just looked absolutely exhausted. Adam sits down in the sand and I watch as Pinto starts a fire with her magic. I look around—it seemed that we lost them for now. I prayed that they wouldn’t find us and maybe just forget that I ever came to the Capitol.
“That was smart Calla.” Adam notes. I give him a tired smile. I lean back in the sand and the soft grainy substance feels good. I just wanted to lay down in it for a little while, but we had to be ready at any moment because who knew if they would find us or not. Adam went wolf and he paced around the fire before finally sitting down. I watch as he whimpered and then growled. It was obvious that Daniel was talking to him. I wish I knew what he was saying. I really missed Daniel and I just wanted to hug him and cuddle up next to him. On a positive note, I got the cure for my grandmother. Her visions would stop and her brain and body would eventually heal. Then I could help her control her mind while she was sleeping.
“I got us some fish.” Pinto says holding three large fish in her hands. I start cooking the fish over the fire and Pinto sighs.
“That was scary Calla. I really thought we weren’t going to make it.” She says quietly. I nod. I thought that too, but I was pretty confident that we lost them. I wasn’t very confident in the fact that we would never see them again though. I was almost positive that Grey would still go looking for me in hopes that would lead me to my alpha. They still didn’t know that I was a human which was good because they overestimated me when in reality, they could just snap me like a twig.
“We just have to get back and then everything will be okay. Daniel will protect us.” I say looking into the fire. Pinto and Adam remain silent and we eat our fish quietly and quickly. I was so hungry and at this point, anything tasted good.
“I am just worried. Those guys were the real deal. What did they even want?” Adam asks. I sigh and cross my arms.
“He saw my mark and he was under the impression that I was a wolf. He wanted info on my alpha. He wants the alpha’s power. Mogard’s power.” I say. Daniel was a powerful wolf with a powerful pack. I was surprised that something like this hasn’t happened sooner.
“That is insane. How could they get Daniel’s power? It’s ridiculous that they think that.” Adam notes. I shrug my shoulders. I had no idea.
“That is not necessarily insane nor ridiculous. Mogard was a regular old wolf like everyone else. He wasn’t a superior breed of wolf until he made a witch give him power. Mogard’s lineage has magic running through their blood.”
“Okay, but they can’t just take that power from Daniel.” Adam says. He seemed more on the defense than anything.
“You are right. They can’t but with a witch, they can.” Pinto states. It was times like these that I was glad I had a witch friend.
“Does Daniel know about his magic? Can you take his power?” Adam asks Pinto. She shrugs her shoulders.
“I am assuming that he does and no I cant. I am not powerful enough for that and I would need years of practice and experience.” Pinto says. I knew that Daniel knew because we have talked about it before. Our two families have history together that goes way back. Pinto makes a bed for the two of us and sets up the tent. Adam goes wolf and stations himself outside of the tent. I kiss his furry head and go inside the tent. It didn’t take me long to fall asleep.
