seonghwa, mingi and jongho sat at one of the small, round tables in the oldest's cafe, laughing and smiling as they reminisced on their high school days. when jongho arrived back in seoul that evening, mingi picked the boy up from the airport and the two decided to visit their hyung, as neither boy had seen him in months, not since before he opened his cafe.
"this was a really great surprise, guys... thank you for coming to visit," seonghwa said gratefully.
"of course, hyung! we still love you, you know!" mingi responded.
jongho agreed with a small nod, a smile glued to his face.
"so, how was tour, jjong?" the oldest asked.
"everything was amazing, hyung! the cities were so pretty, a-and there were so many fans! i never thought i'd see so many people at one of my shows," jongho explained, his eyes lighting up as he spoke about his profession.
"that's great. really great. does hongjoong write any of your songs?"
"some! he's very busy though, especially nowadays."
"ah, i see... how's he doing?"
mingi faked a smile, encouraging jongho to do the same, then they shrugged nearly in unison.
"he's alright," mingi fibbed.
despite being able to tell mingi was lying (he was never a good liar), seonghwa just nodded. he worried for the younger, wondering if he was taking care of himself while being so busy. that was always something hongjoong forgot to do. he almost always forgot to eat and drink water when he was busy.
"his music's incredible. yours is too, jjong. you're both amazing artists."
"thank you, hyung."
seonghwa nodded, standing up to clear everyone's dishes.
suddenly, the door opened and yeosang ran in, his hair soaked from the rain.
"hwa! it's pouring outside, hurry up with closing!" yeosang complained, freezing in his place when he saw mingi and jongho sitting at the table, seonghwa clearing everyone's things.
seonghwa just chuckled, realizing why yeosang had frozen.
"i told you this morning that it was going to rain and you should bring an umbrella to work. come sit down with the guys, i'll make you some hot chocolate to warm you up before we go home."
"you guys live together?" mingi asked.
"yeah... since we roomed together in college, we decided we'd just get an apartment together until we're both financially able to get our own places."
"it's nice though... hyung's a good cook so i'm not eating take out all the time," yeosang added, sitting down next to mingi as seonghwa left the room to make the boy some hot chocolate.
"how've you been, yeosang-hyung?" jongho asked softly, his heart racing.
"good... graduated from college and now i work in the lab at asan medical center."
jongho's eyes widened just slightly, amazed at the boy's achievements.
"t-that's awesome!"
seonghwa came back with yeosang's hot chocolate and a pastry for the boy to eat, assuming he had yet to eat dinner.
"thank you, hyung. mingi, what are you up to these days? it's been what... nearly a year since i last saw you?"
"oh, i'm still a dancer for hongjoong hyung with yunho!"
"oh, cool!" yeosang said between sips. "i'm surprised san and wooyoung didn't both choose to pursue dance."
"how are they, do you know?" mingi asked.
"they're good. san's been abroad for a few months with his girlfriend, who wooyoung still hasn't accepted. though, i think all of us thought that they would end up together, especially after how close they were in high school. and woo's working at the daycare his mom runs, he seems to like it there a lot."
"i miss them..." mingi mumbled.
"i do too," jongho agreed.
"things are really busy though... hongjoong hyung has a comeback coming up next week, and jongho's probably going to be going straight to working on his next album when we get back, knowing him."
jongho chuckled nervously, nodding a bit, making yeosang's heart flutter.
"we should try and get everyone together when san gets back to korea," yeosang suggested.
"yeosang..." seonghwa started.
"that sounds awesome!" mingi agreed.
jongho nodded in agreement as well, and seonghwa just sighed.
"we'll see... i doubt hongjoong would want to see me. i-i haven't even seen him since we broke up."
"he's seen you, though," mingi blurted, receiving a slap from jongho.
"he what—?"
"it was a year ago... he saw you downtown. he said you looked like you were singing under your breath."
"w-why didn't he come up to me?"
"he probably thought that you wouldn't want to see him, dumbass," yeosang mumbled, his mouth full.
seonghwa paused for a moment, then nodded when he realized that yeosang was right. even though they had broken up mutually, seonghwa and hongjoong had still broken up.
"right..."
"well, we should head out! i have a dance practice early tomorrow," mingi explained.
"yeah, i have an interview around noon and i'm exhausted from my flight," jongho added.
"text us, yeah?" yeosang asked the two.
"of course. maybe we can visit you guys more often!" jongho smiled.
"i'd like that," yeosang muttered in response.
"it was great seeing you two. come by any time, it'll be on the house," seonghwa said with a small smile.
"thanks, hyung. see you soon!" mingi said, grabbing his umbrella and walking outside, jongho following close behind.
seonghwa sighed as he sat down, rubbing his eyes a bit and groaning. yeosang finished up his hot chocolate, going to the kitchen and washing his cup before putting it on the rack and heading back to where seonghwa was staring at the ceiling.
"ready to go?" yeosang asked.
"yeah... let's get home."
