the first two days had flown by, hongjoong only checking in a few times throughout the day to update seonghwa and let him know how things were going. it wasn't until the third day that it hit him, waking up missing seonghwa a bit too much for his liking. he looked at the clock to see it was only seven in the morning, causing him to sigh when he realized that no one else would be awake to distract him. he finally decided on going for a walk on his own to try and clear his mind, and if he couldn't, he'd try calling seonghwa then.

he got up from the bed and went over to his suitcase, pulling out one of seonghwa's hoodies that he had brought. when he did, a piece of paper fell out of the suitcase, confusing the boy. he put the hoodie on and then kneeled down, picking up the paper and looking at what it said.

my angel,

hi :) i'm not sure when you're going to find this but i hope you're having an amazing time, my love! you deserve it. i just wanted to write you a little something for if you miss me (and also to surprise you a little bit), so i hope this serves it's purpose! i miss you too, joong. i can't wait to hear all about your trip when you get back. now go have some fun and don't forget to text me or call me if you need anything!

i love you <3

- your hwa :)

hongjoong felt a smile rise to his cheeks as he read the short note, tucking it safely back in his suitcase when he had finished reading. he put on his shoes and headed outside, taking in the cool morning air with a sigh. he did love spending time with his friends and going on a little getaway, however, a part of him wished that all eight of them had gone. unfortunately, jongho and seonghwa couldn't, so wooyoung had suggested that only four of them go.

it hurt, honestly. he couldn't explain why, but it hurt not having seonghwa there with him. sure, he wasn't having panic attacks or struggling too bad with his anxiety, but he was struggling to have a good time at certain points. he just wanted his lover there with him.

he didn't even realize he was crying until he tasted salt in his mouth, the boy wiping at his eyes quickly before calling seonghwa. he didn't answer though, making hongjoong anxious as he tried to reason with himself, saying he was either asleep or at work. he couldn't seem to convince himself that was why the boy wasn't answering though, so he continued to call, over and over, until finally, seonghwa picked up.

"baby... hey, what's wrong? is everything okay?"

"h-hwa..." he whimpered. "i-i want to come h-home..."

"joong..." he whispered, locking his office door as he walked inside. "hey, talk to me, yeah? why do you want to come home?"

"m-miss you..."

"i miss you too, love... but aren't you having fun?"

"i-i was... b-but i woke up a-and n-now i'm not..."

"it's only a couple more days, bug. you're gonna be okay."

"n-no..."

"angel... is there anything i can do to convince you that it's going to be okay?"

"i-i want you h-here..."

"i can't do that, bub... you know what i can do though?"

"w-what?"

"i can facetime right now if you want. would you like that?"

"mhmm..."

"okay. i'm gonna hang up and facetime you, okay?"

"o-okay..."

the older hung up and quickly facetimed hongjoong, smiling small as he did. he felt his heart break a bit at the boy's sad face, tears trailing down his cheeks and his nose running. he looked so small and so upset that he was so far from the older, even though it was only for a few days.
