—Part 8.1—
Uncanny Encounters

"I'm screwed."
—Anzhi—

Cheers echoed across the Dauntless compound, rumbling past the cold metal floors and dark stone walls. Orchestrated screams and chants uncannily harmonized. Strong footsteps characteristically resounded. Every once in a while, deafening crashes rang in my ears, reverberating for almost minutes afterward.

It was...loud.

Don't get me wrong—the Amity were boisterous at each gathering. Each member always had something to talk about, and the animated laughter was incessant during celebrations. It was music galore. Some tune, rhyme, or rhythm was always up in the air—a cloudlike melody that sweetly whispered in my ear.

However, this wasn't harmonious. This was just...pure chaos. The commotion that occurred downstairs was giving me a headache, and I started to get wary of my decisions.

Will I be able to fit in here?

As the crowd of transfers walked through the corridors of the Dauntless compound, circling the pit where the commotion was clear as day, I fiddled with my hands. Everyone around me seemed to be fine—normal, even, as if they'd already been accustomed to such regular hostility.

Will that be me in a few months?

"Hey Pattycake!" the term against Amity-borns easily flowed out of Haechan's mouth, instantly diverting my attention to everyone around me.

It was only then that I realized that we'd stopped moving.

Haechan rolled his eyes, slightly glaring at me—although it wasn't necessarily intimidating. At that moment, though, I wanted to disappear from the embarrassing attention.

Anzhi, stop thinking and pay attention.

"Is this too boring for you? Or do you feel so confident that you could run around this place naked or something?" Haechan scoffed, turning back around to start walking again. "Pay attention, fucking transfers."

The small group of us transfers move behind Haechan and Renjun again, dead silent as we listened to every spoken word and memorized each route. We finally stopped circling the pit, turning to one of the inner corridors of the compound that would hopefully lead us to our destination sooner. I was tired of walking already, feeling exhausted from the ceremony earlier.

A few more steps allowed for our endless patters to finally halt in front of two steel double doors.

Haechan and Renjun open the doors wide, allowing us to walk into the cavernous space littered with single beds. Immediately, chilling air brushed past my face, causing me to shiver.

I hated the cold. I think it was obvious from the sheer dislike I had with the Amity shower system.

"This is where you'll be sleeping for the next few weeks," Renjun spoke into the thick silence, stopping his pace next to Haechan.
