—Part 8.2—
Hit 'Em Where It Hurts

"I'll do more than just bruise your little baby-maker next time."
—Emiko—

"What are you even planning to do?"

Jaemin's voice echoed faintly around us, accompanying the sound of our combined footsteps as we walked down a wide stone hallway. Along the walls of the corridor were several doors, some simply just rectangular slits of dim light, and others open fully, letting all sound carry past the entrances. I didn't know precisely which one we were headed for--whichever dorm housed the strange Abnegation girl--but I had plenty of time to search before the big dinner later that was to come.

I shrugged, "..I don't know. I'm really only here to satiate my curiosity," we came upon a trio of doors, each of them open. The voices of two familiar men grew pronounced as we neared them, my own trailing off, "One of the recruits really caught my eye..."

Jaemin, never catching the end of my sentence, looked up as a pair of Dauntless trainers exited the dorm. They sauntered out the door, but their comfortable pace quickly wavered once they noticed us, and a look of near exhaustion drained Haechan's face. He and the other mentor, Renjun, continued silently in our direction.

Haechan eyed me up and down as he passed by. But he then took a moment to pause his steps and grab my shoulder, leaning in with a small grin, "Give 'em a bit of a scare, Emiko."

I smiled back, "You bet."

His own smile faded off as he walked to join Renjun, cold and stoic as always. They grew smaller as they descended the long hallway, most likely off to deal with the plentiful groups of rowdy Dauntless turning the Pit floor into a massive fighting arena—I wouldn't be surprised if Jeno had opted to join another brawl.

Once the mentors entered a separate room, I turned to face the dorm. With the hallway emptied, the only sound audible was transfer chatter slipping past the crack in the doors, still quieter than any group of Dauntlesses could be. Jaemin gave me a shrug and stepped forward to nudge the door open, then motioned forward for me to go.

"Ladies first," he flashed his white teeth, and stepped aside.

I fought the urge to roll my eyes before entering the room. Inside, the dorm was built completely from plain stone--the high ceiling, the walls, floors, pillars, the metal beds being the only other material, but they were a lackluster gray as well. Everything was colorless, the sheets a plain white, steel bed frames bolted to the floor. It didn't seem too far from a prison.

My personal room at Dauntless didn't resemble it in the slightest.

Maybe it was a good thing I stayed.

The transfers seemed to cluster together based on their past factions. Candors stayed relatively close to each other, and the Erudites as the biggest group occupied a larger portion of the bedding. Unfortunately for the groups smaller in numbers, the Amity transfer and two Abnegation's, the room was overwhelmed by the sheer size of the other factions.
