"What are their names?" asked a woman hovered over my vision. I looked to my side to see a boy wrapped in a blue blanket, that matched his deep blue eyes, staring at me with a goofy smile which I felt my face twist into as well.
"This," I felt arms wrapped around my abdomen and lift me up higher then I was before. I looked up to see my dad. "This is y/n."
"And this," I looked over to the woman who had spoken, it was my mom, she was now holding the boy who was looking up at her curiously. "is Alexander."
Alexander.
The room changed to a birthday party. Two banisters above the door way, one with cars on it and the other with a microscope. Little kids ran around me with birthday hats strapped to their heads. A little boy grabbed my arm, it was the same boy from before. Alexander.
"Come on, mom's bringing the cake." he cheered with glee as he pulled me to the table our mother was placing a cake down on. We took the seats in front of it. In the middle was a candle that had been shaped and decorated into a number 4. The cake was decorated in plain white frosting and had an image of me in the boy somehow imprinted on it.
"You guys ready?" our mom asked.
"Wait, where's daddy?" I asked, searching the room.
"He-"
"I'm here, I'm here!" he said as he came bursting through the front door. Sweat dripping down his forehead. "I'm sorry I'm late." He kissed Alexander on the head and ruffled his hair and then did the same to me.
"Now we can start." Alexander said, once again he looked at me with his big goofy grin and suddenly Sarah was telling us to make a wish. But what could we wish for? We already had anything we could've ever wanted.
Again the room changed but this time it wasn't happy. I was standing alone in the middle of the road, rain pouring down my shirt and tears rolling down my face. Suddenly, I collapsed to my knees and my silent tears became a violent sob. I screamed out and it echoed back at me through the empty neighborhood.
Then, a pair of string arms wrapped around me and made comforting shushing sounds to try and calm me. But I wasn't calm. A pain wringed in my chest as I felt my heart break into a million pieces. My only thought...Alexander.
I shot up straight almost making myself fall out of the bed I had been placed in. My breathing was heavy and my entire body felt like it was on fire. I felt sticky from the amount of sweat I was covered in.
"Hey, hey. Are you okay?" Wanda asked as she walked over to me, placing a hand on my cheek. "Oh my god, you're burning up."
"I-I-I r-remember." I stuttered out, my breathing and racing heart making it hard to talk. "I remember everything."
"What? What are you talking about?"
"I need-I need to talk to Sarah."
"Okay, she's out in the living room. She saw what happened on the news and wanted to make sure you were okay." Wanda explained. "Are you... okay?"
"No." I said and stood up, walking to the living room. I saw Sarah sitting on the couch talking to Steve and Natasha. "Sarah." Everyone turned to look at me and Sarah jumped up and ran to hug me but I didn't hug back.
"Are you okay?" she asked holding my head in my hands.
The first tear fell and that was it, I stepped back from her touch. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"Tell you what? Y/n, what's going on?"
"Don't. Don't lie to me anymore."
"Y/n-"
"No! No, why didn't you tell me?! Why did it take 7 years for me to remember?! Why didn't you tell me?!" The tears were violently running down my face now.
"Y/n, please just calm down." Sarah had started to cry now too.
"How is that even possible?! How could I just block out 9 years of memories?! Happy memories! How could you go on knowing and not tell me?!"
"Y/n, just let her explain." Natasha said putting her hand on my shoulder.
"Don't touch me!" I yelled sternly and moved back. I looked back over to Sarah.
"You had already lost your mom and your dad didn't think you could take another heartbreak and he was right! He had to send you to a mental hospital so you wouldn't hurt yourself anymore! You don't remember because he found a way to make you forget. He figured it'd be better than the alternative. And it was."
"Well maybe the alternative is better!"
"Y/n!" Wanda shouted in a worried tone.
"What?! Can you really sit there are say that you didn't wish it were you instead of your brother? What if someone were to erase your memories of him how would you feel? How would any of you feel if your memories were unwillingly taken from you?"
"Y/n, he did it to protect you!" Natasha said.
"I don't care! I should've been given a choice!"
"You're right you should have," Sarah said. "but what about your dad? You lost your mom and then your brother but so did he. You were all he had left. He wasn't gonna take the chance of his his daughter as well."
"Why does this keep happening?" I asked and collapsed to my knees in a violent sob. I felt Wanda wrap her arms around me and hold me to her chest.
"Hey, listen to my breathing. In. Out. In. Out. Do it with me."
"We should give her some space." Steve said. Their footsteps echoed down the hall as I tried to follow Wanda's directions.
"Our pain only makes us stronger right?" Wanda said, repeating my words from our conversation all those months ago.
"What happened?" I asked. "After I passed out."
"He's in a cell in a S.H.I.E.L.D. base if that's what your wondering. He didn't fight. He came willingly."
