"And why is that preventing you from kissing me?" she asked.
"Because everyone I love dies!" I said a little too loud than I should have. "And I can't loose you."
"You're not gonna lose me. I can take care of myself. And even when I can't I know I can count on you..." she said, pushing a piece of hair behind my ear whilst holding my face. "plus the several other people in this compound. You all came to my rescue when I couldn't protect myself and I have no doubt that you wouldn't do it again if you had to."
"But what if we can't? What if-" She cut my off my engulfing me into a kiss, it was short and passionate but it was often to set off a spark inside me. We soon pulled apart but she kept her arms draped around my neck. "don't let go." I whispered.
"I won't." she replied and pressed her forehead against mine.
"You guys are so cute." a voice startled us. We both jumped and turned to see Clint holding his shoulder while glaring at Natasha who was clearly unhappy with him.
"You ruin the moment, doofus." Natasha gritted between her teeth.
"How-how long have you guys been standing there?" I asked.
"Since the first kiss." Clint replied. I watched as Wanda's face lit pink as I felt mine do the same.
"And you've just been creepily watching?" I asked.
"No-"
"Exactly!" Clint interrupted and earned another punch from Natasha.
"It's just... it's nice to see you both happy. And y/n I get that you're scared of getting hurt again but sometimes you have to take that chance."
Wanda and I shared a glance. While my face probably looked confused and conflicted, she just put on a smile. A genuine smile. How does she do that? How can she still smile through difficult situations? And look adorable while doing so.
"Can you guys leave us? So-so we can talk." I asked.
"Of course." Nat said and pushed Clint out of the room as he grunted and whined. After a few minutes of silence, I spoke.
"I want you...I want...this but I-I can't. I can't risk getting closer to you. I have to keep my distance because if I get close and I keep falling for you...I don't think I'll make it if I lose you. And yeah, you can say that I'm not going to lose you but you don't know that. I have lost everyone. I lost my mom, my dad, I got my heart broken by my first two loves. I almost just lost you. My heart can't take anymore, Wanda."
"You're scared of getting hurt again. Believe me I get that but being scared shouldn't stop you from being happy. Because I'm scared too. I've never been in love before so this is all new to me too-" That was it.
The rest of her words were drowned out. She said it, maybe not the direct three words but she said it. She said she loved me. And suddenly that was all I needed.
I gripped her waist on both sides and cut off her sentence as I kissed her. It was sweet and passionate and full of so many emotions. Butterflies filled my stomach as her tongue slipped into my mouth and danced with mine.
We pulled apart, both of us breathing heavily with matching smiles. I rested my head on her chest and listened to her heart beat. It was racing. I made her happy. I made someone happy. I was wanted.
But happiness never lasts long.
"Y/n!" Tony shrieked as he ran into the kitchen. We jumped and turned to see him pale faced with panic. He glanced down at my hand that held Wanda's with our fingers intertwined. He straightened himself and put on a smirk. Deep down we both knew that it was only a mask.
"Y/n." he said, more calmly now. "I need to talk to you. Alone. In the lab."
"Why?" I asked. His smirk dropped to a grown and his eyebrows creased. "Fine, fine. I'm coming."
I gave Wanda a quick kiss on the cheek and went to the lab with Tony.
"So, wh-" Before I could even ask he blurted out the problem.
"Blood!"
"What?"
"Blood. Your blood. That weird person in the masks' blood. Your uncle's blood. Bruce's blood."
"Tony, what are you talking about?"
"They match. Well kind of. Your blood is different, we know this. But it's similar to Bruce's because you have his DNA and because you both got hit with the gamma rays. It's also similar to your uncle because you have Emily's DNA. But the creep with the mask is an exact match."
"What?" I asked. He ran over to the microscope and grabbed a bunch of papers and handed them to me. It was the results of 7 different doctors who ran DNA tests on mine and the mystery person's blood. They were a perfect match. My heart sank.
That's-that's impossible...right?
"Y/n?" The sound of Tony's voice abruptly taking me out of my thought.
"I...um...I need to think." I said softly and slowly backed out of the room, slamming into the door and knocking over a few things on a nearby desk. "I'm-I'm sorry."
I ran to my room dismissing the worried voices of the others asking what was wrong. Quite honestly I didn't know what was wrong. I didn't know anything and...it scared me.
I slammed my door behind me and closed my eyes as I slid down to the floor. Letting out a quiet sob as I did so.
"Y/n?" I heard her innocent voice peep from a few feet away from me. I didn't open my eyes because I knew once I saw her I would burst into tears.
"I just wanna be happy for once." I said hoarsely. I finally opened my eyes to see a worried Wanda sitting on my bed. "Why do things always have to go wrong?"
"Y/n, what happened?" she asked rushing over to my side. "What did Tony tell you?"
"Nothing...something...I-I don't know! I don't understand!" I buried my face in Wanda's chest as I had pulled her into a tight hug.
"Hey, hey. It's okay. I got you. It's okay."
