My mom always told me the first step was always the hardest, I didn't like the phrase. Of course it was right, but I never understood why. There's never a certainty that what you're walking into is certainly dangerous, though I guess there could be.
(Y/n) was busying herself with an inner monologue while walking to school. Adjusting her uniform every once in a while and looking down at her watch. Every time she saw the leather strap, the gold rim, and the beautiful sun she was reminded of her parents.
It was such a beautiful gift that they had gotten for her, brand new too. She wore it every day and it was her prized possession.
The short walk from the dorm she had been assigned to when she had first come to Japan by UA to the actual campus ended when she walked through the gates. The eyes of all of the students were on her 'is it that obvious that I'm from America?' She brushed it off but now knew a new meaning to her mother's words of warning. She entered the school and wandered down the hallways, taking it all in, it was so nice and clean as well.
With a few minutes left until bell, (Y/n) found her way to 1A and opened the unusually large door. Immediately she got a sense of deja vu as all eyes were on her once more. Instinctively she put her arms around her midriff and found a seat in the back of the classroom next to a boy with intriguingly two toned hair.
He seemed to be in his own world though, so she didn't bother him, she didn't really want to talk to anybody infact, fears of being made fun of for being American once again flooded her mind. Fortunately, that was snapped away instantly by a bubbly brunette who pranced up to her desk and immediately introduced herself.
"Hi!"
(Y/n) was a little taken aback, but a huge smile adorned her face not long after when she was introduced to the class of 1A. All of them were new, and pretty nervous about their first day too. Relief washed over her and she started to relax, all of them were so nice, and very interested about what it was like back in the US.
In the middle of explaining her favorite band to Jirou, she felt a chill up her spine and on the floor she spotted her teacher, vaguely recognizing him from the meeting with Nezu she had while being shown around the school and told about typical Japanese customs in order not to do anything stupid. No one else seemed to notice so she just went back to her seat, still a little frazzled.
Soon enough though, he made his presence known and lectured the class about being distracted. What took the entire class by surprise was a "quirk assessment"
"Aren't we supposed to have orientation" Uraraka pointed out. She made a good point, we could have gotten lost and it was the first day. She was all for working hard but I mean come on.He shut that idea down immediately.
Soon enough, they were all outside, and to say the least (Y/n) was not amused. All of the tests seemed to be based off of strength or raw abilities, and while she wasn't weak, her quirk was far more useful in a combat situation, that's why she made it in in the first place, and Mr. Aizawa seemed to know. You see, while the normal people applying had to take the entrance exam with robots, unfortunately, they did not have the budget to send giant machinery to every country where international students would be applying, so instead they had a tournament similar to the sports festival. Under combat situations she flourished, but when she was stuck squeezing the life out of a grip tester, it was safe to say she did not know how she got in.
Luckily what really helped her was the sprint, because she was actually pretty fast, getting 3rd place with a time of 6.12 seconds.
Distance running and the jump she also placed 2nd in both categories, making up for her scores that were rather bad.
Coming in 14th place, she was far from the best, but at least expulsion was off the table.
'Oh no..'She looked over at the freckled kid and felt awful she went up to him but stopped herself from offering any pity, instead opting for a quick
"You did good"
Along with a nod.
"I was lying about the whole expulsion thing by the way"
Her face dropped and she just sighed.
'So this is what UA will be like'
