Under pressure

Chapter 7

(Y/n) opened her eyes to the blinding lights of the infirmary. She groaned in pain as the feeling in her arm came back, as well as her nose and chest.

Soon enough, a short, elegant older woman walked in and tsked at her pain.

"You know you need to be more careful dear"

She nodded painfully.

"You managed to break your arm, two ribs, and your nose"

(Y/n) closed her eyes, trying to focus on anything else.

"You're lucky you passed out when you did, or you could have caused even more damage"

Approaching her, she continued with her lecture.

"You're also lucky that your arm was a clean break, and your ribs were just severe fractures"

She kissed (Y/n)s cheek and the most blissful feeling washed over her. Recovery girl bandaged her up and had her lie back down.

"I can let you go after you eat something, but before you do, one of your friends wants to see you is that okay?"

(Y/n) nodded happily and sunk into the hospital bed. It was an actual bed, much more comfortable than the ones in the infirmary back in the US.

The door opened and she saw Todoroki sigh in relief at her being okay.

"Hey"

She offered a bit of a weak welcome, it was a bit intimidating to be in such a vulnerable state. It wasn't that (Y/n) didn't trust him, just that being vulnerable wasn't a pleasant feeling for her.

"Hey"

He wasn't going to ask how she was doing, obviously, she's in a hospital. But what surprised him was instead what she said.

"Are you okay?"

He gave her a blank and confused stare.

"Why are you asking me? You're the one in the hospital..."

She thought for a moment.

"Doesn't mean that you didn't get injured, also it was really scary, emotionally are you doing okay?"

She looked over at him and realized what she had asked him as well as how personal it might have been. She covered her mouth and quickly apologized, but he just smiled.

"I'm doing fine, thanks for asking"

She smiled too.

They sat in the peaceful silence before he broke it.

"You did really good out there"

"Ummm, can I have a passion fruit tea with strawberry popping bubbles please?"

She finally decided on her order and began to talk with Jiro about what she got. It was something that they all needed, just some good old mindless fun.

All of the girls had decided to meet up at the mall after (Y/n) had gotten discharged from the hospital and were ready to sit down and just talk over bubble tea.

While she waited for her drink, the other girls took a seat at a table and began to gossip, when she finally got her order, the girls stared at her and Mina had the biggest smirk on her face (Y/n) had ever seen.

'Oh no'

"Sooooo, (Y/n), how have you been?"

"Uhh, I've been good, you know, arms not broken anymore, that's always a plus"

She had no idea what was going on, though she knew it was something. Hagakure chimed in teasingly

"You've been getting awfully close to Todoroki recently"

Ahh so that's what this was. Oh how she wished to be on the other end of this.

"Yeah, I guess so, we sit next to each other in class so it was really inevitable"

She hoped playing dumb would be enough, but unfortunately Mina was smarter than that, and even more persistent. (Y/n) loved that girl but goodness, she did not want to be on her bad side.

"Oh come on (Y/n), there has to be more than you're letting on"

(Y/n) smirked, she wanted to cause a bit of harmless chaos, of course she's always did.

"Well what do you think is going on Mina?"

She sat back in her seat and decided to take it as it came.

"I think you're hiding something"

Mina was having fun too. She smiled, and the girls watched in enjoyment.

"Now why would I hide something from my dearest friends, don't you think I would have told you something if something was really going on?"

"I don't know (Y/n), Todoroki seemed awfully persistent to see you today, you know he waited for hours in the waiting room for you"

Now she didn't know that, but she couldn't let that show, she was in the middle of a game with Mina, and her competitiveness was just starting to kick in.

"Well yeah, he probably just didn't have much else to do, plus he had his backpack with him when he came into my room, he probably was doing homework"

That was a straight faced lie. He did not infact have his backpack, and she was pretty sure the group didn't even need Jiro to hear how fast her heart was beating, but seemingly, surprisingly, it worked.

"Well what about when he was so quick to sit on the bus with you on our way to USJ"

"Everyone else was already paired up, and plus it's not like we're complete strangers so figured we'd go with each other"

"So when did you get to know each other, cause before USJ I never saw you guys interact."

'Shit'

Damn, how was Mina so good at this, she could have just as easily been a lawyer with her skills, what could she use, what could she use.

"What are you talking about, we talk all the time, that's how we became friends in the first place."

"When?"

'Please work please work please work'

"When I bump into him while walking to school, the block before UA is an intersection we usually see each other at"

Another lie, but by the look on Minas face she had won.

'Damn, maybe I should be the lawyer'

She quickly changed the subject with a laugh and it took a good 10 minutes before (Y/n)s heart was beating normally again.
