The air leaves Dean's lungs in a single breath. The sight that greets him is nowhere near as tame as upstairs. This time the bodies are stacked, thrown to the ground as if they were nothing. The hospital staff have been brutally killed leading a blood trail throughout the reception and standing above them are a hoard of angels. There must be at least a hundred of them, crowding the entrance. It's only when his eyes land on the leader of their pack that his breath returns to him.
"Naomi."
She smirks at him. "Yes unfortunately for you Castiel isn't as skilled as he likes to think when it comes to using an angel blade." She spins said blade in her hand, twirling it skillfully before catching it again. "It's the same blade," Naomi pauses, glaring behind him at Sam. "And I plan on using it on your brother and then you and Castiel will soon follow after." Dean instinctively pulls Sam further behind him even as his hands shake and his legs threaten to collapse. He tries to think of a way to stall them so that he can figure out how to get Sam out, but they're outnumbered. Every exit is covered and he's exhausted both physically and emotionally. Dean breathes in slowly and holds it in his lungs until it burns. His grace sparks viciously inside of him, wrapping around his neck and forcing its way up his throat.
If they won't give him an exit he'll have to carve one out himself.
The atmosphere is thick enough to choke on as the angels stare him down. Dean reaches behind him and squeezes Sam's arm, he doesn't care about what happens to himself but he'll make sure Sam gets out no matter what. His grace rises up in his chest and he can't help but relish in the shocked twitch of the angel's wings. He can feel each of their graces sitting tight in their throats calling out for him to take them. Dean steps forwards.
Before his foot has touched the floor his back spasms and he feels himself hunch over he yells out in pain as he tries not to be dragged to the floor.
"Dean!" Sam rushes to his side, panicking as he tries to help him up. Dean lets himself be pulled up trying to push Sam behind him aware of the predators stalking them. However, when he looks up the angels are crouched over in equal states of pain, their wings striking the air uselessly against the invisible pull,
"What have you done?" Naomi demands, gasping out in pain as another wave hits the room, forcing Dean to his knees. It feels as if his very grace is being pulled from his chest, trying to lead him somewhere. Dean's vision blurs as he tries to focus on the angels, witnessing their confusion and fear as each tries to find the source of their pain.
Suddenly a bright white light blinds him as it opens in the centre of the room absorbing the angels in one. He feels himself being dragged towards it as Sam's hand barely anchors him to the ground. Sam call for him but he can't respond. The light is drawing him in, wrapping itself around his soul and calling to him.
"Dean!"
As if turned controlled by a switch the light fades from existence in one solid motion stealing the oxygen from the room with it. Dean's arms give way and it's only Sam's hand grabbing his shoulder that stops his face from colliding with the floor. "Dean? Are you okay?" Dean's head spins as he tries to speak. "What the hell just happened?"
He opens and closes his mouth a couple of times trying to find the words to say but all that comes out is, "Let's get out of here."
He stumbles as he crawls to his feet but something is telling him to go outside, the same feeling calling to him. "Dean, wait." Sam jogs to catch up with him as the pair bursts through the main doors of the hospital. The sunlight blinds him as they step outside and the cold air cools his burning skin. Outside the streets are empty as if the angel's presence scared away every creature from existence, even the clouds seem to have disappeared from the sky.
