The expected thump of the ground is barely registered as Dean's body groans, his head feeling as if he's still falling.

"Dean!" He hears Castiel yell for him and he tries to wave him off to warn him not to come down. The warding must be prepared for the possibility of any creature coming down here. Dean can feel the power of it pushing him into the ground, almost burying him under the weight of it. Even as he tries to stand his head is still spinning, his body aching even more under the pressure.

Glancing up, he can see Bobby, Jo and Ellen watching him, hitting their fists against an invisible wall. "What the hell?" They're shouting at him but he can't hear them, they're silenced by the wall. Wincing, Dean manages to stand. He looks up at the hatch and can see Castiel watching him thankfully outside of the invisible cage. Blood rolls down the side of his head and his hands burn from blisters. He wipes at the blood half-heartedly. By the time he's wiped his blood-stained hand on his jeans his wound has healed, his blood acting like liquid magic.

Dean walks towards Jo, Ellen and Bobby, pressing his palm against the wall. They do the same but none of them can break through. Dean sighs knocking his hand against the barrier uselessly. "Fuck." He glances around but there's nothing in the circle but him and the ladder. The ladder must have been warded to prevent any intruders. He rubs at the invisible burns on his palms. Looking back at the group he mouthes, "Go find the warding." Before turning towards the ladder.

He knows what he has to do. They won't find the warding any time soon, it will be hidden extremely well and from the looks of things, this place runs for miles. Dean breathes in and out trying to relax and ignore the remains of Castiel's grace that's sitting on the surface of his skin. He can do this, he's used his powers accidentally all he's got to do is focus and do the same thing, right? He can feel Castiel watching him. He closes his eyes.

No distractions.

At first, it's just darkness and then a twitch of light. He watches as the light shudders under his attention and then suddenly splinters shooting in different directions around his body. He watches the grace flow, soothing him and thrumming beneath his skin, ready to burst. It rushes to his shoulders, down his arms and then back up to his chest, trying to escape towards Castiel. No. He calls to it, forces it away, back to his arms and down to his hands. His fingertips tingle and holding it there makes his joints burn. His legs feel weak and shaky.

"The grace naturally tries to get to its original owner, it will force you to want to be close to me in the hope that it will return to me and make me stronger."

Dean feels the grace slip, sparks rising from his palms and shooting towards his chest at the same time. The force almost pushes him over and he has to force himself not to flinch, to keep his eyes close and concentrate on the majority of the grace burning his fingertips.

He can feel Castiel's eyes on him again, tempting him to open his own and to steal his attention. He squeezes his eyes shut, keeping his fingers flexed trying to relax his body but he can feel the grace unsettle and being to flow freely again.

"It will force you to want to be close to me."

Dean's eyes fly open at the same time the grace shifts in his fingertips. It burns him inside and out and before he can think he clenches his fists. A wave of energy expels uncontrollably from within him. Instantly it shatters the invisible wall. He watches through glazed eyes as the grace dives between bookcases and sculptures until it finds the warding and attacks it with one solid blow. His body suddenly hits the ground, not realising he had been levitated off of it. His back and ribs ache and he cries out. The grace stops and then it's rushing back, filling him with every energy source it can find in the room, stealing the power from the very air around him.
