"Guys guess who I am" you said as you approached the gate's check in booth, dumpling stick between your teeth with a wide grin and your arms crossed. You started stomping around with your arms and chest puffed out. "I'm so cool, nobody's better with a senbon. C'mon try me, I dare you" you said, chin held high.

Genma raised one eyebrow, looking puzzled. "Since when do I act like a boxer headed to the ring for his first fight?" He chuckled.

Kotetsu & Izumo toppled over in fits of laughter. "Too good ..." Izumo said, wiping a tear from his eye.

You flashed a cheesy smile at Genma. He rolled his eyes and shook his head as he signed the both of you in for the day.

"C'mon, let's go check in with Raido on how things went last night" Genma said, turning to you and waving you over.

You clicked your heels together in attention, flicked the stick up in your mouth and saluted him. Kotetsu & Izumo broke out into laughter again. "You're ridiculous" Genma said, smiling with his eyebrows raised. He headed toward Raido as you winked at your friends in the booth. You spit the stick into a nearby garbage can.

"She sticks the landing! And the crowd goes wild!" Kotetsu said, standing up to clap and make fake crowd cheering sounds.

You bowed. "I'll be here all week" you said, waving and pretending to shake hands.

You smiled at your friends and started toward the meeting as they held their hands out for high fives.

"Who needs coffee when you can just get on Genma's nerves?" You whispered behind your hand before returning the gesture.

Raido was already giving Genma the details of last night's watch when you approached, holding your hands behind your back. You nodded to Raido as he finished his thought. As Raido turned to answer another patroller's question, Genma took the opportunity to nudge you. The both of you carried on a silent conversation with nothing but widened eyes and clenched jaws. As Raido turned back around, you both faced forward at attention.

"Then we just had some mild disturbances by some animals near the west gate but that was it basically. Pretty uneventful night here" Raido said, passing the clipboard over to Genma. "Sorry I missed the big night last night."

You looked confused.

"You should have sent out a flyer or something. I thought it was just the usual suspects getting a beer or two, I didn't know you were there too. This is huge news!" Raido said, with a surprised face.

You crossed your arms and looked at Genma. "You guys got Raido in on this too?" you said, before lightly smacking Raido on the arm with the back of your hand. "Well, we missed you too Raido. Next time!"

"Next time?" He looked at Genma, eye brows raised and mouth turned down.

"I know! She's a whole new (Y/N). Could be a shadow clone though, I didn't really check to be honest ..." Genma said, poking your shoulder.

"If you keep busting me like this there won't be a next time" you said, arms crossed and eyebrows raised.

"Oh, c'mon (Y/N)" Genma said, wrapping his hand around your shoulder and pulling you into his side. "You were just sorely missed. We all really care about you."

"I missed you guys too" you said, patting Genma's back before letting go.

You and Genma paired up to do your first sweep of the outskirts of the village. You loved the feeling of the wind hitting your face as you watched the village wake up. The sound of the branches hitting your shoes as you leapt from tree to tree. You really do love this part of being a shinobi: the consistent peace balancing out the random chaos.

Your eyes scanned back and forth, checking for any abnormalities along the perimeter. You looked ahead and Genma had his hand held up, signaling a stop. You jumped to the branch Genma was crouched on and followed his eyes toward the ground. He'd heard a lot of yelling but it turns out, Lee and Guy were just being a little extra loud during Lee's training this morning. You both snickered silently before continuing on.

As you both rounded the corner to finish the sweep, you glanced down to the gates. It looked like Kotetsu and Izumo were both standing in front of the booth, bowing. You furrowed your brows and squinted as they came into view. Standing in front of them was a man in a white cape and a woman with short dark hair, holding a small pig.

You smacked Genma on the arm and when he glanced over, you pointed down. He looked confused and shrugged. Once you completed the perimeter check, you headed to the booth to report. "Shit, what did we do?" Genma said out of the side of his mouth as you both headed over. "Couldn't tell ya" you replied, quietly.

As you approached, you both bowed. "Lord Hokage" Genma said. "How can we help you?"

"Genma, how are you?" he said, calmly. "Please, address me as you always have."

"Lord Hokage Kakashi will probably be the closest I'll ever get" Genma replied, smiling.

Kakashi let out an exasperated sigh. "Yeah yeah ..." he said, waving his hand. He glanced up at the top of the wall bordering the front gates and said "I just finished telling Kotetsu and Izumo, I'm not here for any specific reason. Just checking in on the perimeter and border control."

"Understood. Well, let me know if there's any way I can help" Genma said, with a single nod.

"Mm" Kakashi replied in agreement before turning toward you. He switched his hat to his left hand. "It's nice to meet you" he said before extending his hand.

You reached your hand out in return before bowing. You returned to standing, looked him in the eye and replied directly: "we've met before, Lord Sixth."

Kakashi's eyes studied you slightly before widening. He let go of your hand as a slight shade of pink rushed to his cheeks. "Genma's friend?" he guessed. You nodded. His eyes widened. "My apologies, it's uh ... wow. It's been a while, hasn't it?" he continued, his eyes closed as he chuckled and scratched the back of his head awkwardly.

You turned to see Genma with his eyes already closed, mouthing the words "oh my god" and massaging his temples with his hand. Izumo and Kotetsu were snickering under their breath.

You smiled, returning to face Kakashi. "Has it?" you replied smartly, crossing your arms and squinting your eyes.

"U- uh..." Kakashi started, a bead of sweat starting to form at his temple.

"(Y/N)!" Genma whispered, nudging you in the side.

Kakashi quickly waved his hands, smiling under his mask. "Hey hey ... I'm the one who forgot. She has a point" Kakashi said, chuckling. He tucked his hat under his arm, walked towards you and grasped your right hand securely in both of his. "(Y/N)," he said, looking into your eyes with sincerity. "It was nice to see you again" he said before releasing your hand and grabbing his hat. "I assume you'll continue to keep these men in line?" He said, taking a step back and pointing to the 3 men next to you.

"Yes, Lord Sixth" you said bowing, looking up at him and smiling slightly as you returned to standing. Kakashi cleared his throat and replaced his hat.

Kakashi turned toward everyone else. "Thank you all for your hard work. See you!" he said, holding his hand up and walking away. Shizune quickly followed. Genma, Kotetsu and Izumo bowed.
