A few days later, you were stationed at the west tower for the majority of the day. It was another quiet shift, some mild interruptions by forest animals as well as shinobi leaving for and returning from their missions.
About an hour before your shift ended, you noticed a group of people approaching the gates. You called it in through the proper channels and continued your watch. As the group slowly came into view, you noticed it was Kakashi and the same people who accompanied him earlier this week returning from their trip to the Hidden Sand.
You felt a warmth spread across your chest and chills start to form on your arms and legs. You watched as he approached the gates, discussing plans with his board members and nodding in agreement. You admired how serious he took his work, it made him all the more attractive. It was hard to keep your gaze off him as he removed his hat and crossed over the entrance to the Hidden Leaf. His gray hair sprung up and he ran his gloved hand over it as he tilted his head back. You practically started sweating before turning to face forward again. He knows I'm working today doesn't he?
After your shift ended, you excitedly headed home hoping to find one of his notes. Once you gathered your mail, you opened your door and kicked it closed with your foot. You quickly thumbed through all the envelopes only to come up empty. You looked down at the floor, in front of the door, in your kitchen and living room: nothing. You let out a sigh of frustration before grabbing a can of tea out of your fridge and sipped it as you leaned against your counter. He's probably super busy catching up today, maybe I'll see him tomorrow.
You threw the can in the garbage and headed to your bedroom. You unzipped your Jonin vest and hung it on your closet door. You sat down on your bed and laid back, looking up at the ceiling. You turned to the side and that's when you saw a small white card on your nightstand. You quickly sat up and grabbed it, a smile already starting to form on your face.
Hi there. Please come to my office when you're free. I missed you. x
You covered your mouth with your hand, barely able to contain the smile behind it. You held it close to your chest for a second before putting it in the drawer of your nightstand where the other notes from Kakashi were stored.
You quickly freshened up, fixed your hair and changed your shirt. You sprayed on some perfume before throwing your black leather jacket around your shoulders and grabbing your purse. After locking the door, you headed toward Kakashi's office.
While you were walking towards the Hokage Building, you gathered your thoughts. Over the last few days, you thought about how being around Kakashi made you feel and what this was between the two of you. You came to the conclusion that you wanted to see where this went and you were open to the idea of things getting more serious between the two of you. Your stomach flip flopped thinking of all the excitement as well as the trouble that would come with that decision. Whenever it feels right, I'll bring it up to him.
After tucking a loose piece of hair behind your ear, you started up the stairs toward Kakashi's office. You walked through the doorway that lead to the floor Kakashi's office was on. Luckily, no one seemed to be around. Everyone was probably settling back into their offices after the long journey. You walked toward Kakashi's door, readying yourself to see him again.
"Y/N?" You heard behind you.
You turned around to find Shikamaru behind you with a stack of papers in his hand.
"Shika! Hey!" You said, surprised. Well, if it wasn't the worst person to run into while you're trying to keep a secret.
"Hi, what are you doing here?" He asked, his head cocking to the side and his face looking confused.
