You wrapped up your shift at the East tower for the day, thankful you were able to steal a few glances toward the entrance that morning as Kakashi departed for the Hidden Sand. You swapped out with the shinobi who was on next watch and headed down the ladder to the welcome booth. As you walked over, Genma was chatting with Izumo and Kotetsu.

"I'm just gonna enter my notes for the day before heading over" Genma said, heading towards the entry door of the booth. He looked up to notice you and waved.

"How'd the West tower treat you today?" You joked as you approached him.

"Pretty boring to be honest" he said, shrugging. "You?"

"Couldn't agree more" you said, nodding.

"Hey come join us, we're headed out for some beers" Genma said, turning toward Kotetsu and Izumo. They both gave a thumbs up.

You smiled, a few beers sounded great.

Genma went to buy everyone a round of beers as you, Kotetsu and Izumo settled into your booth.

"So what's been going on?" Izumo asked, nudging Kotetsu as pay back for not letting him sit on the outside.

You chuckled. "Eh nothing much" you said, shrugging. "I work, I go home, I run errands and then there's the chore of seeing my parents. You know, the usual."

Kotetsu shoved Izumo lightly. "Sounds lame" he said, frowning with a one corner of his mouth giving a small smile.

"Oh you know it" you said, letting out a soft chuckle. "Enough about my boring life, what about you guys?"

"Oh Kotetsu went on a date the other ni-" Izumo started before Kotetsu's mouth flew over it to shut him up.

"Remember when I said 'keep this between us?' The key words being 'between us'?" Kotetsu said to Izumo. Izumo shrugged, Kotetsu sighed.

"Ooooh! A date?" You said, raising your eyebrows slyly. "Tell me more!"

"Yeah ..." Kotetsu said, releasing Izumo and looking down. "We just had our first date a few nights ago ... Not really sure where it's going so I wanted to keep things private in the meantime" he finished, shooting daggers at Izumo.

"Now where is Genma with those beers?" Izumo said, raising his head and looking towards the bar. You laughed. You understood how Kotetsu felt, as you were keeping a similar secret yourself.

Genma came back to the table with 4 beers and passed them all out. "There we go" he said "what'd I miss?"

"Oh Kotetsu went on a dat-" Izumo started before Kotetsu covered his mouth a second time.

"What did we just talk about?" Kotetsu said, frustrated. He let out a defeated sigh and removed his hand from Izumo's mouth again. "I guess it's no use hiding it anymore."

Genma glanced over to you and raised an eyebrow mid sip. You smiled. "Long story short, Kotetsu went on a date but doesn't want to jinx it so he was keeping it private until tonight" you said, gesturing to Izumo.

"She's a female shinobi, that's all I'm gonna say" Kotetsu said before taking a sip of his beer.

"Did the date at least go well?" You said, wincing a little to brace the impact of his answer.

"Yeah ... it did" he said, looking down and smiling to himself.

"Can you believe it Pa? Our little boy's all grown up" you dramatically said to Genma.

Genma wiped a fake tear from his eye. "Ma, I tell ya. I never thought this day would come!" He replied, clutching his chest.

"I'm older than both of you!" Kotetsu said, gesturing toward the two of you. All of you broke out into laughter.

Once the laughter subsided Genma hummed after swallowing a sip of beer. "Did you guys see Lord Sixth left today?" he said, glancing at Kotetsu and Izumo before landing his gaze on you.

You looked back at him confused. "Yeah, I saw him head out this morning. I guess he's got some business with the Kazekage" you said, nonchalantly before taking a sip of your beer. You felt a small pang in your heart, missing Kakashi already.

"Yeah I saw he took a few board members with him, he waved to us on his way out" Izumo said, casually. "We have a third person at the booth with us at all times and they beefed up gate security for the next few days."

"Get ready to actually work Gen" you said, raising your eyebrows. Genma had an incredulous look on his face that made Kotetsu laugh.

"Who are you talking to?" He said, scoffing. "I always work hard!"

"Suuuure ya do" said Izumo, rolling his eyes.

Genma threw his hands up. "Guys!" He said, actually shocked.

You, Kotetsu and Izumo busted out laughing. You all loved busting Genma's chops, he was always so gullible.

Genma rolled his eyes. "That's it, next round's on you" he said, pointing at you before taking the last sip of his beer.

After a few more rounds (and luckily, some food) you all decided to head home for the night. Genma dropped you off at your apartment.

As you walked through the door, you tripped on the door frame. Genma quickly caught your arm to prevent you from falling. You giggled.

"You good?" He said, laughing. "Do I have to help get you settled?"

You smiled. "No I'm good" you said, laughing along with him. "Night, Gen."

"Night, (Y/N)" he replied before giving a small salute and closing the door.

You poured yourself a glass of water and headed to the bedroom. You changed into your pajamas, chugged the glass of water and settled in bed.

You looked towards your balcony doors through the small opening left between the curtains, thankfully you remembered to close them before bed this time. As your eyes grew heavier, you wished to hear those quiet knocks on the window. You wished Kakashi would sneak in to kiss you goodnight or even just to thumb your cheek. You missed him: his touch, his lips, his presence. You'd grown accustomed to seeing him regularly, it comforted you. This early on? I'm in trouble.
