"Why're there only three first-years? There should be more, shouldn't there?" Yuji asked while eating the popsicle he bought from a nearby convenience store

"Why're there only three first-years? There should be more, shouldn't there?" Yuji asked while eating the popsicle he bought from a nearby convenience store. It was cold against his tongue and tasted like lemon. He'd expected it to be on the sour side but it was actually pretty sweet with only a hint of sour. Yuji leaned against a railing and watched people walk by. Here in Tokyo, it seemed like everyone was in their own little world. It was really different compared to back in Sendai.

'Tokyo sure is amazing'

"Well, have you ever met anyone who has seen curses before?" Yuji turned to look at Megumi who stood beside him. Megumi was glued to his phone and, like all the other Tokyoites, stuck in his own little world. The two of them were waiting for their sensei so they could finally go pick up their fellow classmate who apparently came from the countryside just like Yuji.

"Huh, now that I think about it, I haven't" Yuji realized. Out of his fifteen years on this planet, he was pretty sure he never met anyone who could see curses. Well, as far as he knew. Maybe there were people he came across that were able to see cursed spirits but just didn't know it like maybe the nice lady at the bakery he used to buy his melon bread from or one of the nurses that took care of his grandfather when he was in the hospital could see spirits for all he knew.

"That just proves how small a minority jujutsu sorcerers are. Even those who are jujutsu sorcerers aren't all good either. Some of them are murderous curse users." Megumi explained, recalling the terrorist attack nearly a year ago launched by the worst of all curse users. Many traumatized sorcerers quit after that day. The ones that didn't quit were either crazy enough to stay or dead. He didn't know any of them but that didn't mean they weren't someone's spouse, parent, child, sibling, or friend that was now burned to ashes.

"So are all people who can see curses considered jujutsu sorcerers?" Yuji asked. Megumi shook his head.

"Not all people with vision are considered jujutsu sorcerers. Many of them can't utilize their cursed energy and even fewer have cursed techniques"

"That sounds really complicated. I don't get it" Megumi sighed at the pink-haired boy's words.

"Someone once told me that it's like four people who all get the same book. The first person can't see the book. It doesn't exist to them. The second person can see it and read it. The third person can see the book, read it, and understand what they're reading. The fourth person can see the book, read it, understand it, and utilize the knowledge gained from the book." Megumi explained, recounting an example he had been told when he was still learning about cursed techniques.

"Oh! That makes a lot of sense!" Yuji nodded his head in understanding.

"Man, whoever this person is must be real smart." Yuji added. Megumi couldn't help but think of her. How long had it been? How many months had it been since she'd been gone? It was hard to keep track now. It felt like she was just there next to him laughing about something only yesterday. He missed the sound of her laughter - a melody that had anyone who heard it utterly enraptured.
