A/N: ENJOY READING! =)
___
I stand in the center of a market square, circling around myself, staring at the many people and noises around me. My gloved fingers figit with each other in nervousness. My head spinning and overwhelming me with fear and paranoia. The smell of all sorts of fruits, vegetables, candys, soups and other food's mix together in my nose to make an unpleasant smell. I want to throw up.
I close my eyes and cover my ears with my hands to try and block out the noise. But it doesn't help. It doesn't stop.
We have been on the run for just over a year now and I'm still not used to the chaos and crazy, overwhelming amounts of loud people.
"You know, spinning in circles won't make you feel any better," My Best Friend Bucky Barns tells me, placing his hand on my shoulder from behind. I jump in fright and turn around to face him.
He smiles and lifts up the bag of plums he just left to buy. "Lets go home then." I smile back.
I used to call him Winter and he just called me Doll, because we never knew each others real names. But together we have been working on getting our memories back. And we leaned about our real names. Now I call him James, and he calls me Y/n. Though most of the time he sticks to the nickname Doll.
Just as we are about to leave, I stop Bucky from taking another step. Still holding my hand to his sleeved forearm, I nod my head towards a man who sits in a shop stall. He's staring at us with fear in his eyes.
When the man notices us staring back, he runs out of his stall and out of our sight. Bucky pulls me over towards the stall and grabs the news paper article that stands on the stalls table top.
"Winter Soldier Cautat Pentru, Bombardmenrul Din Viena." Bucky reads aloud in Romanian.
"What does it say?" I ask, the fear now plastered onto his face worrying me. Hydra may have been nice to Bucky and given him abilities to speak and understand multiple languages, but I never got that luxury.
"Winter Soldier Wanted for the Vienna Bombing," He translates, looking at me with the same facial expression that perfectly describes how I feel.
Who believes this? Surely they made some soft of mistake. But why? Are they trying to frame him? Or did they just make a stupid mistake again?
"We need to get out of the city now before they see us!" Bucky whisper-shouts, grabbing my sleeved arm again.
"James, wait!" I stop him, pulling him by the arm to stop him from dragging me off in a sprint. "We need to stop and get more supplies first. We don't have enough to live off of if we are going to hide."
He sighs in worry. "Alright, we need to be quick. I hate this idea, but it will be faster if we split up. I'll head to the apartment and collect our stash, you head to the store. We can meet outside the apartment again. If anything goes south, go on the run to the country-side like we planned. promise me you will be careful."
"Only if you promise me the same," I answer. Bucky pulls me into one last small quick hug before running off towards our small current living space.
I breath out a sign of relief and sprint in the opposite directing to a small shop that sells basically everything. I quickly grab everything we might need and pay for the stuff with cash, heading back to our apartment.
But I arrive back to find Bucky not standing in frond of the building like he said. Instead a bunch of armed forces surround the building.
They already found him.
I quickly stash the supplies in a bush for later. I jump over the armed vehicles, run into the building and up the many flights of stairs, searching for Bucky. The entire place is swarmed with armed forced people, many injured.
I pull my hood and sun glasses over my face and pretend to be just a random person who lives in the building, wanting to see the chaos that's happening outside.
The building looks like someone had come around and tried to destroy it to the ground. Many of the railings are bent/broken and the floor covered in shards of glass and bits of the now broken walls. Our apartment appears to be in an even worse state then it was before.
But no sign of the Winter Soldier.
There is a hole in the floor where Bucky and I had stashed our backpack, meaning he had already grabbed it and run.
I sprint across the apartment and out the window, falling many feet and landing perfectly on the other building below.
I look around for a few seconds, scanning the area. A fight appears to have happened here as well. Giant bullet holes everywhere on the rooftop and what I presume look like cat claw markings all over the place.
What the hell happened here?
I jump off of this building and land perfectly on the street like before. Again I scan the area. I notice more claw marks across the walls of the building.
What thing attacked Bucky that fights like a cat scratcher? Or was that there before? Highly doubt it, I would remember seeing something like that before.
I brush of the thought and scan the area more. I find a lot more giant bullet holes in the ground, but besides that I find no other sign of where the rest of the fight might have continued.
As much as I love the idea of saving Bucky's ass, I don't want to go to jail like he might because of this. I just got free from being locked up and tortured by Hydra, so the idea of risking everything and going through all that again honestly doesn't sound appealing.
I decide that leaving and going on the run alone is the best decision for my safety.
I head towards the stash of supplies I left in the bush and head out of the city in the direction of where Bucky and I had planned to go next.
Several armed men seem to spot me then, but I carry on running, planning to never stop until I reach my destination.
I hope Bucky will be alright without me. . .
