The Kai Havertz Dilemma

First Steps

The following day came with it's new challenges. Kai was supposed to try and take his first steps since that drastic match now that he was improving. He felt extremely nervous about it especially that his family, except Sophia, flew back to Germany for few days in order to catch up with everything they left behind these past months. They didn't mention anything about the whole his mother versus Chelsea thing as they knew it would make him mad.

Kai (putting his phone down after posting): "Sophia please I just don't want to sit alone I am scared of hospitals you know"

Sophia: "Don't you want me to get you some clothes?"

Kai: "yes but I don't want you to leave"

Sophia: "Babe I would be back in an hour I promised and would get you your Nintendo switch as well"

Kai (thinking about it): "Okay, I would really like my Nintendo switch right now"

Sophia: "See... It will be fine .. just try to sleep for an hour and you will find everything you want in front of you okay?"

Kai (pouting): "Fine"

Sophia (kissing him on the cheek): "Don't pout, I love you"

Kai: "love you too"

Sophia was gone, leaving Kai alone in the room. Ever since he woke up he always had a companion. He didn't like the idea of sitting alone in a room hooked to monitors and tubes .. he felt so fragile and weak and constantly needed support from the others. It skipped both of their notices that while Sophia is away, the doctor should come to help him walk ..

Dr Carter (entering the room with Lisa): "Kai .. how are you today?"

Kai: "fine I guess, not fancying a quiet room though"

Dr Carter: "Yeah it's a first in this room to be honest"

Kai: "My family went back to Germany for few days and my girlfriend is getting me some clothes, Can't we wait till she is back to try walking?"

Dr Carter: "There is no need for it, we will just help you out of bed into that chair, you would sit there for half an hour or so and then put you back in bed .. It is nothing to worry about"

Kai was feeling uneasy about the whole thing but nodded anyway. Lisa removed the covers leaving him in only a hospital gown .. he now had a nasal cannula, an IV, chest monitors, an NG tube and a urine catheter to take care of .. so Lisa tried to untangle everything to make it easy for him to move.

Dr Carter: "Look, first thing we want you to do is getting on your side .. stay a moment there then lower your legs to the side and sit"

Kai nodded and did as he was told, he didn't find it hard, only some dizziness when he sat

Lisa: "feeling fine?"

Kai: "yeah just a little bit light-headed"

Lisa (standing in front of him with both of her hand under his armpits to support him): "It's okay take your time .. you can lean on me if you want"

Kai: "I think I am good"

Lisa: "Okay you may try to stand very slowly and it is just two steps to this chair .. and I will be holding you the whole time don't worry"

Kai nodded and began to stand up slowly. He instantly felt his breath taken away and couldn't support himself falling in Lisa's hands ..

Lisa: "Hey hey .. It's okay sit down again"

She slightly lifted him up helping him to sit back on the bed .. he was getting very sweaty and clumsy with his pale face and drifting eyes ..

Lisa: "It's okay just close your eyes and lean on me"

Kai closed his eyes and bent his head over her shoulders, the NG tube drew out some vomit and his blood pressure was getting low

Lisa: "Should I let him lay down again?"

Dr Carter: "Let's wait for few moment to see if it subsides"

They waited for some time in that exact same position. Kai was starting to feel slowly better but didn't want any of this anymore

Lisa (when Kai lifted his head up): "any better?"

Kai: "Yeah .. can we please stop?"

Dr Carter: "you might go through all of this again later as well .. it is less likely to happen again now"

Kai: "Okay"

Kai tried standing up once more, he still got dizzy but not like the first time .. he found it hard to move his legs but put all of his strength to get it done and reach the chair .. it seemed like a mile away now that he finally was there and quickly threw himself on it .. He was now sitting visibly out of breath and struggling to support his head up

Lisa: "Very good .. you did very well .. you feeling fine?"

Kai: "Yeah .. just .. need .. a minute"

Lisa: "Take your time it's fine ..."

It took some moments for Kai to feel better again and he started looking better than before

Lisa: "Seems to be subsiding"

Kai: "All good (with a soft smile)"

Dr Carter: "very well Kai"

Lisa: "(putting a device in his hand) just press on this if you need anything .. I would be back in half an hour to help you to the bed"

Kai didn't want them to leave but didn't want to sound like a baby so he just nodded and sat there doing nothing .. he was starting to feel sleepy and wanted to get down in the chair a little bit to place his head on the chair's back .. he was trying to lower himself slowly but wasn't able to hold the rails well slipping from the chair to the ground ... he tried to reach the calling device that was now under the bed but it was too far away

Kai: "Heyyy (trying to shout as loud as he can) .. Helppp .."

His voice was very weak to be heard over the rather busy hospital .. so he tried to get back to the chair not noticing that the urinary catheter was no entangled under it. He prepared himself to push his body up quickly but the moment he did, he felt a tremendous amount of pain in his groin screaming in agony, he fell back to the ground in defeat unable to bear it anymore .. he looked down to find that a red circle of blood was quickly forming on his gown which made him feel even weaker and dizzier .. he tried to fight it as much as he can but it was too much to take .. he was struggling to keep himself awake until few moments later when darkness finally took over .. leaving him there lying unconscious on the floor in a growing pool of his own blood.
