The news of the setback was leaked to the media:

"Kai Havertz was found bleeding on the hospital floor and ended up in surgery."

It struck everyone how unfortunate this boy is turning out to be, but most importantly, it was a shock for his family, who thought he was totally fine and getting better when they left. Kai's mother called Dr. Carter, who explained what happened, leaving out the "we left him for a good deal of time bleeding on the floor part," but anyway, she wasn't going to calm down until she heard Kai's voice.

Sophia's nap was interrupted by the vibration of Kai's phone beside them. She saw it was his mother and immediately rushed up, realising what a mistake it was to forget to call her after what happened.

Sophia: "Hi, this is Sophia."

Mrs. Havertz: "Sophia, is Kai OK?"

Sophia: "He is sleeping... There was an incident yesterday."

Mrs Havertz: "Yes, I saw it on the news and Dr Carter told me what happened, but is he okay?"

Sophia: "I don't know to be honest.. health-wise he is stable, but when he woke up he was terrified, which made them put him back to sleep.. so hopefully he wakes up alright this time. I will call you when he does. "

Mrs Havertz: "You better do it, not like yesterday. You should have gotten someone else to sit with him if you wanted to leave in the first place."

Sophia: "Excuse me, he wanted me to get him some things and..."

Mrs Havertz: "Still, no need for excuses. Listen, Soph, I am not blaming you or anything. I know you are doing a lot for him, but this was a mistake and we will discuss this once I see you. "

Mrs Havertz hung up, leaving Sophia on the edge of a panic attack. She felt like her whole world was falling apart with what was happening to Kai and now with this conversation as well as the one with Dr. Carter, it was just too much to take.

Tears began to fall from her eyes, and she found herself sitting on the floor, her legs tightly clasped to her chest, her scream muffled by the fabric of her skirt that embraced her face.
Her sobs were getting louder and louder but were interrupted by the voice from the bed.

Kai: "Help please. I can't."

Sophia quickly stood up, hovering over Kai.

Sophia: "Shush babe, it's fine. I am right here and I am not leaving you ever again. "

Kai: "Help."

Sophia: "Kai, please just open your eyes for me." Kai, open your eyes. I can't take this anymore."

Kai wasn't quite coherent at this moment, but her voice urged him to slowly open his eyes, wanting to see her.

The moment she saw his green eyes staring at her, an involuntary smile was instantly drawn on her face.
Kai didn't appear as terrified as she had anticipated, but rather broken.

Sophia (rubbing Kai's hair while embracing him): "Sweetie, it's okay. I promise you are fine now."

Kai didn't respond. Instead, he gathered all of his power to wrap his arms around her and hide his face in her chest, crying with all of the energy left in him.
Sophia didn't stop crying from earlier, but the scene shattered every sense of composure she still had and they both gave up.. crying their eyes out for a good deal of time..

Sophia: "It's okay Kai. I promise this is going to be over."

Kai: "Over?"

Sophia: "Of course..everything will be okay and I will never ever leave you again. I promise.. just please try to calm down. "
