What happened in the past two days delayed Dr. Carter's plans for Kai to start walking and try food for the first time through the NG tube. Thus, he passed by the room in the early morning to address these plans.

Dr. Carter: "Good morning.. any better today?"

Sophia: "No... he just opened his eyes like 15 minutes ago, but they are just wandering as usual."

Dr. Carter: "Okay, Dr. Alfred will pass by later today after his family visit, but in the meantime I am going to give him some anticoagulants because he has been bedridden for a long time now, much longer than intended, so he is at risk of blood clots and emboli. Also, Lisa is on her way, and we'll try some food, more like a nutritional formula, through his NG tube to see how he reacts."

Sophia: "Okay.. can that hurt him?"

Dr.Carter: "The anti-coagulants are a must at this point. There is a risk of bleeding, but his surgery was some time ago and he shouldn't be subjected to any blood loss operation later, so overall I believe it will be fine. For the food, he might have some nausea or he might vomit it back, but let's hope it will pass smoothly."

Lisa entered the room, greeting Sophia while preparing a syringe with the formula.

Lisa: "Don't worry dear, I will give him only 100 ml... they shouldn't bother him that much."

Lisa pushed the solution slowly into the NG tube. The poor boy seemed to be clueless with his eyes wandering without a purpose, although few minutes later he started tossing his head around....

Sophia (holding Kai's hand): "What's wrong? Why is he doing this? "

Dr. Carter: "I think he is feeling nauseous or dizzy. It's okay.. as long as he doesn't vomit."

They waited for a few moments when Kai started to calm down a bit.

Lisa: "I think it is subsiding."

Dr.Carter: "Yes, it's good, but that should be enough for today. Maybe tomorrow we can start giving him some more."

The duo left after giving Kai his newly prescribed anti-coagulants, leaving Sophia kind of relieved that at the very least something had passed peacefully.

An hour later, Kai's family arrived, heading straight to his room. Sophia greeted them all, stepping aside for them to see Kai. They tried to talk to him, but he was just the same, lying down on the bed, eyes wandering everywhere, obviously totally disconnected from everything happening around him.

Lea started crying when she realised the state her brother was in: "Kai, can you hear me? Please try to feel us, we are all here, around you."

Mrs. Havertz always had a tough figure that was almost unbreakable, but at this specific moment she was obviously shaken. After all, it was her son lying in a hospital bed completely helpless and completely unaware.

Mrs.Havertz (looking at Sophia while holding Kai's hand): "I didn't think it was that bad. They told me he was not speaking but he is not even aware of his surroundings. How long has he been like this?"

Sophia: "Two days, since he knew about the trial."

Mrs Havertz: "I left him and he was much better. I left him for you and he ends up like this."

Sophia (astonished by what she was hearing): "Excuse me... I am not the one at fault."

Mrs.Havertz: "Really, then who is.. you were dump enough to let him bleed out alone, dump enough to tell him about the trial after it.. can't you see that your lack of responsibility is killing him?"
