The Kai Havertz Dilemma

I can't wait to meet you

Frank positioned himself on a chair beside Kai. He had a big brown file in his hand which prevented anyone from seeing through. Kai seemed rather hopeful than worried to hear what Frank had to say, in contrast to Mason, who was biting his nails awaiting what was to come.

Kai: "What's new?"

Frank (getting a ring out of his pocket): "Is that your engagement ring?"

Kai: "OMG yes, where did you find it?"

Frank: "Officer Lane found out that the van that took her was deregistered from the VIP trips office a few weeks ago. However, we managed to get the driver's address from them and got him into custody. It turns out he is German. He denied having anything to do with the kidnapping at first, but when we found the ring inside the van, he had to admit he did it."

Kai: "Son of a bitch .. where is she then? What did he tell you?"

Frank: "He said he did it because he received money and a letter with the mission; the exact details and timings were all there as well. He was just a part of a plan, but no one knew who orchestrated it. The letter stated that he should get her from this address at this time and hand her to another man near the outskirts. He claims he doesn't know anything else. "

Kai (grabbing his hair in frustration): "He should talk. He must know something about that man he handed her to."

Frank: "If he knows anything else, he will talk. We will make sure of that. He also said your dog jumping in was not part of the plan, so he gave him to the other man as well."

Mase: "What are you going to do next?"

Frank: "We will try to get any footage around the area where he handed her to that other man and see if we can get him as well. You should receive a call soon if it's just for ransom. Although it doesn't look like it from my personal experience."

Kai: "Okay, thanks officer."

Frank (sighing while looking away from Kai): "There is something else.. that we found while searching your house."

Kai: "What is it?"

Frank handed Kai the brown cartoon file he was folding. Kai opened it suspiciously to find a white piece of clothing. He took it out, unfolding it to find the following:

Kai didn't have to read further to know what that meant. He couldn't help but smile a bit before sobbing into the jumpsuit. Mason didn't need to ask either; he could see quite well what that was while Kai was unfolding it. He didn't waste a second before sitting down next to Kai, hugging him tightly. Officer Frank excused himself to leave Mason trying to comfort Kai a bit.

Mase: "I know it's the most horrible way to know Kai, but congratulations buddy, they will come back to you. All three of them. "

Kai: "I can't lose them Mason. It was already a disaster .. now it is even worse."

Mase: "No one would want to hurt her, so there is no other option except for some gang seeking a ransom from a rich lady. You will just pay and get them back. It will be over and we will celebrate it together. "

Kai: "My life has been like hell for almost two years now, Mase. Even when something as happy as that happens, I learn it like that in these circumstances to make my life more miserable. "

Mase: "I know, bro, but believe me when I say that they will return safely and all of this will just be a dark memory."

Kai: "You know, I always dreamt of that day when Sophia comes to me and tells me that she is pregnant. I imagine how tightly I would hug her or how I would rush everywhere to get her what she needs. I imagine myself jumping around the house because I'm so excited and happy... and now this? I don't even know if they are alive or if I will ever see my baby. "

Mase: "You will, Kai. You will. I know it will be fine."

Kai: "But how? I don't know where she is or what they are doing to her especially now that she is pregnant. She could have lost the baby just from the way they took her into that van. We are also assuming they are so kind to keep Balou and feed him."

Mase: "We don't know any of that, it's true. However, there is hope, kai. Stick to it and believe."

Kai: "I feel like my mind is going to explode."

Mase: "Literally?"

Kai: "Yeah."

Mase: "May you try to sleep a bit? Your blood pressure is probably quite high right now."

Kai: "I bet. I don't think it would be possible anyway."

Mase: "Try to lie down a bit at least. It has been a hell of a day. "

Kai nodded, lying on the couch he was sitting on. He never stopped crying or clutching the jumpsuit towards his chest, like a toddler who was very much afraid of the darkness to let go of his favourite toy. Mason sat for a bit beside him until he felt him unwinding a bit and he went off to bed.
It was fortunate that Mason had placed Kai's phone beside him as his mother called, totally unaware of what the day had done to her son.

Mrs. Havertz: "Hey Kai, how are .. OMG Kai, you look miserable. What is wrong sweetie? You okay? "

Kai (sobbing): "No Mom, not at all ..."

Mrs. Havertz: "What's wrong, honey?"

Kai: "It's Soph Mum, she's taken."

Mrs. Havertz: "How?"

Kai: "I don't know, someone kidnapped her and Balou."

Mrs. Havertz: "Did you inform the police?"

Kai: "Yeah, they are working on it .. and they searched my house and found out she was pregnant. She had this to tell me. "

Mrs. Havertz started to cry as well, putting both hands on her mouth when her husband heard her. He came running towards them and stopped when he heard Kai's sobs.

Mr. Havertz: "What happened?"

Kai: "Mum, I can't talk anymore, okay? I just need you so much right now."

Mrs. Havertz: "Either I or your sister will come to you the following morning. I will call her to book the flight right away."

Kai: "Okay, I will call you later, Mum."

Mrs. Havertz: "Kai, what's that bandage on your hand? Are you ..? "

Kai hung up before she could even continue. He felt himself quite tired but was not able to stop crying nor even to soften his grasp on the jumpsuit. He kept trying to tell himself that everything would be fine, but it didn't seem to be working. He spent almost the whole night shaking with a waterfall flowing down his face until he heard the door knocking roughly.
