Trust me Chapter 3
The lights in the arena were blinding.
After we got escorted to our seats in the VIP box , which is small for eight people , I happened to look up and now I'm blind... Well only for a few moments. The kids complained about every damn thing about this VIP box , the seats were rock solid , they were getting warm , they couldn't see. Now I see why my parents did not want to come.
Without a warning , the lights turned down to a pitch black. An Announcer's loud voice booming on each speaker.
"Here are your Washington " he took a breath and let a long "Capitals!"
Bursts of cheers erupted from ever seat in the arena , the boys stood out of their seat and screamed with every bit they could. I however remained seated for the whole thing , why? What was the point , they got paid way too much and skated with stick's ? Why do they deserve a standing ovation , when firefighters or paramedics and doctors save lives and barely get noticed , and only get paid one quarter of what these idiots get.
First period went as I expected , guys getting slammed into the boards, fights over words being said , power plays and penalty's , one thing I didn't ? When Sam Smith came on the ice , it was even louder then when they all came on the ice together. The boys went crazy , blowing the horn , whistling , screaming.. Why? He was captain , but he couldn't get by without his team , so why does he deserve a bigger applause?
By the end of first period , Nick wanted to go looking around the arena , I kind of wanted to also , because we will be sitting for more than an hour and a half. But these guys in suits or the secret services wouldn't let us go , why? It's to much of a threat they said , to many people so it is not safe. They would go get us what we wanted just no what we wanted to do.
For the sake of the argument , I asked if they could go get us food , only one of them left. And came back with one of everything on the menu , I looked into Nicks eyes as they glowed when the greasy food was placed in front of him.
Boys as boys , dug into the food and only left a few me a few fries , some Coke and chips , they ate the rest. I didn't mind though , I wasn't that hungry.
Second period did not start as the first , there was no dimming lights , no big introduction. They came on and started , the crowd did cheer when they came on the ice, but not as loudly.
More fights and penalty's happened , more goals happened. But it was at the ten minute mark that got me holding my breath. Sam Smith got a break away from centre , everyone thinking he would save them from the score of 4-5 , people started to stand and cheer his name . When he almost shot the puck , a defensemen from the opposite team came and knocked him over straight into the net , head first in the goal post , the net moved out of its place. Gasps and cries came out of every direction. The referee's whistle blew and the timer stopped , Sam was still on the ice , I looked over at my brother's face , he was concerned and angry at the same time. In a way I felt bad for Sam , but with him being such a known hockey player , that just puts a big target on his back.
He was on the ice with his face down for 5 minutes, he got up slowly and people cheered for him until he got out of the rink. He through his stick in rage as he left and the he disappeared in the darkness.
Cleaners came to wipe up the bit of blood Sam left. The person who knocked him out got a game suspension for the week. Then the cheers got louder , Nick and his friends stood up cheering. I still remained seated.
We got a power play from the accident , but that did not help. Because in third period , Pittsburgh , the opposing team , got a three goal lead , 4-8. The Verizon Center was in a depressing mood. But The three boys were positive. Now we get to meet the sweaty and cranky hockey players.
