After Ross left with Jeremy Verity went up with Demelza.  Verity told her although she would be honored to raise Jeremy if both her and Ross weren't around she would not take him away from his father and if that was her wish she was just going to have to stay around and raise him with Ross herself. She then told her of Ross's visit and how he stood up to Elizabeth and told her that after everything she helped cause he had no feelings whatsoever and in fact he hated her.  That she, Demelza was his true love and the only one who his heart had room for.  Demelza listened to what she had to say but wasn't sure if she could believe what Ross had said.  Verity heard the horse but it sounded like more then one so she went to the window. She could not believe her eyes there was Elizabeth and Geoffrey Charles. She excused herself from the room to go down and confront the unwelcome visitor. As she started down the steps she heard shouting. Prudy and Jud was barring the door, Dwight who was sleeping got there at the same time as he and Verity.  On seeing them, Elizabeth said they will not let me talk to Ross. Verity said "what did you not understand when he talked too you? He said he wanted nothing more to do with you". "Geoffrey Charles wants him to go riding with us states Elizabeth". "This isn't the time which you should have explained to him. Go asked his future stepfather to take him". Verity told her. No one saw Demelza come down to the landing, she looked at Elizabeth and said "you are not welcome here leave". Elizabeth said "you are getting around pretty good for someone who was on death's door". Dwight ran up to Demelza in case she fell she was awfully pale. At that moment Ross came in.  Seeing his wife standing on the landing he handed Jeremy to Verity and went to go to his wife but Elizabeth grabbed his arm. He looked at her hand and pulled his arm away from her. "Geoffrey Charles and I thought you could come for a ride with us". Ross looked at her then got down in front of Geoffrey Charles and said "you will always be in my heart, your father was my dearest cousin but I will no longer be at your mothers beck and call.  She has promised to wed George so that is where she should take her attention". "Ross I will cut ties with George it can be just us" Elizabeth pleaded. Ross said "I told you there is no us. My love my life is standing there in the landing, I will never disrespect my wife that way again now leave and don't ever come back on Nampara ground again". He ran up the stairs picked Demelza up and carried her back to bed. Ross yelled down the steps make sure she gets off my estate immediately. Dwight said what were you thinking you could have fell.  "She thinks I am faking this, it is what everyone will think", Demelza cried. Ross said "what is this"? Dwight told him about Elizabeth's comment about Demelza not looking like she was at deaths door. "I have never hit a woman but that one is asking for it, Ross exploded. Dwight looked at him with a look that said calm down. "Demelza please drink some more water", Dwight implored her. "I have to use the chamber"she said. Dwight said "you will let me know if the bleeding is worse" she nodded. Ross said, "why would she come here"? Dwight said, "she feels it is her right to be the woman that holds first place in your heart". Ross said "but she doesn't and she hasn't for a long time I was just to stupid to know it". They heard Demelza moving and went to help her back in bed. She informed Dwight the bleeding was no worse then it was with the birth of the other children. There was a knock and Verity had Jeremy by the hand and a jug of fresh water in the other. Jeremy ran to his mother and told her Ross had taken him riding along the beach, then he said "Momma please get better I Love you.  Then he said can I lay with you I sleepy".  Ross picked him up and placed him besides his wife.  Jeremy said "sing me a song". Demelza asked "which one"? Jeremy thought for a moment, he said "Red Heart". Ross smirked at his wife and she sang the song while looking at her husband as she did so many years ago that first Christmas.
