The hospital released Demelza, Hugh Armitage was her escort back to Cornwall. High found Demelza very attractive. Her coppery hair, how glowing skin, and her charming character enticed him. They would take none stop about poetry, art., and books. He would stand back and listen to her sing; her voice was like a beautiful angel calling from heaven. He wondered why she was out at sea in that small boat but did feel comfortable to asking her yet. He would though he thought he would find out who hurt her and extract revenge for her!
Hugh beguiled Demelza, he was taller than Ross but not as muscular. He was handsome and easy to talk to. She had never felt a man had desired her, not even Ross. Ross married her because his first love was unavailable. She knew this but it still hurt he would tell me he loves me, I am his dog start, and he is my servant, then he chooses her, told her to get out of his way in anger. She blackened his eye, but it did not matter. As he said he had no choice. Hugh never made her feel she was less like Ross did, he made her feel, well she thought, love and cherished. There was something about him, but she knew he could never replace Ross in her heart. She wished she could because she knew he would not betray her. If only she would have never met Ross and fell in love, she may have been happy with Hugh! It felt like Hugh was courting her even though he knew she was married. She thought she must be careful not to give him the wrong idea!
Ross had a visitor from Falmouth, Andrew Blamey, the suitor of Verity came to his home. Ross wondered why he had come. He came in saying, I have news of Demelza! Ross, braced himself, he thought this is where my life ends, if she is dead, he would join her. She WAS the air he needed to live think they had her body he said, "where is she, I want to bring her home, where I can be placed beside her?" Andrew knew then that Ross thought she had died; she had been gone for a little over two weeks. Andrew told, "A naval ship found a craft floating, a young woman badly dehydrated, suffering from sun stroke. Upon further examination she has suffered an assault recently. We believe it is Demelza, I need to ask the assault she suffered was it by your hands?" Ross looked at him with shock that turned to furry, "I did not assault her, it was Captain Malcom McNeal of the Kings, Scott Foot Guard. He has charges against him, there would be a trail once they get him back to Cornwall! Where is my wife now is she still alive," he hopefully asked? "They left her at the hospital in Lisbon before returning to Falmouth. She was in no shape to return when the ship left port, but another one should be arriving any day and with luck she should be returning in a forte night if not before. We left one of the officers with her, to ensure her safety, Andrew said. Ross fell to his knees, she was alive, his beautiful, loyal, his wife, Demelza was alive. Ross said, "I must go to her!" Andrew said by the time you get to Lisbon she should be in Falmouth. "I will bring her to Nampara myself, you should stay here and take care of you son!" Ross nodded; he was going to do everything he could to make Demelza's homecoming a success.
Ross sent word to Verity, Dwight and all of Mellon, Demelza was found alive and would be returning. Upon hearing the news Elizabeth, I only have some window to act to get Ross's attention back? If I do not, I will be stuck marrying detestable George. She ordered the servants to saddle her horse and rode off to Nampara. It was a party atmosphere ant Nampara, drinks and toasting abounded, everyone was in a joyful mood. Ross told Jeremy, momma would be home soon and Jeremy dance around and yelling, Momma comin hom, Momma comin hom. Ross was picking him up and twirling him around when Elizabeth Road up. She unmounted and went to Ross, scowling at Jeremy who tucked his head into Ross's shoulder. It did not go unnoticed by Ross how she looked at his son. "Elizabeth, I take you the good news has reached you Demelza will be home no later then a forte night." Jeremy started to sniff. Ross said, "there there my boy Pappa is here." Elizabeth said, "you coddle the boy to much!" Ross left out a roar of laughter, "Elizabeth my son has more knowledge of life and the ability survive then children twice his age, Geoffrey Charles included. I only wish I did coddle him more instead of hurting him by spending time with my cousin's wife and their child. Unless you have come to celebrate my wife being alive you may leave. You upset my son!" "Ross," I have come to tell you we can still have our life together, if you so wish," Elizabeth informed him?" Ross said, "I do not wish, I wish to have my wife back in my arms and in her bed. You should go marry George because you two are perfect for each other. Conniving, conceded and uncaring for who or why you cause pain to someone!" "Ross, I have said it before and I will say it again, you are making a mistake," she yelled at him. Ross smiled and said the only mistake I did was paying you any attention and taking you to bed." Elizabeth looked around to see if anyone heard what Ross had said, then got back on her horse and road away.
