Chapter 23

"Babe, we're here." Axle nudged Charlie's arm. She groaned against him, slowly opening her eyes. Her face scrunched in confusion realizing they were at Cathedral.

Axle hadn't found the time to tell her about the lockdown and Maddox. Seeing the look on her face, he knew he had to tell her. "We're in lockdown, LOH blew up the clubhouse, and Maddox got hurt." He revealed.

"Oh my god," She gasp, clasping her hands over her mouth. "You were dealing with a lot and I honestly didn't know how to tell you." "I didn't want to overwhelm you by adding more stress." Axle sighed.

"How bad is Maddox hurt?" She asked concerned. "He suffered a punctured lung, but he's recovering in the ICU," Axle began explaining, "Sophia is monitoring him, she'll let me know if anything changes."

Charlie pulled Axle in her arms. He let out a breath he didn't know he was holding. She rubbed his back and caressed her fingers through his hair. "Mmm." Axle moaned against her neck.

She pulled back and gently cupped his face. Charlie kissed him. It was slow and passionate. She pressed herself against his muscular frame. She poured all the love she had for him into that kiss. And Axle felt it.

Charlie wanted him to know that he wasn't in this alone. That he didn't have to carry the weight of the skulls alone. As his ol'lady, she would share the burden with him.

They broke from the kiss, both out of breath, her chest heaving rapidly. Axle leaned his forehead against her. "I love you so fucking much." He mumbled against her lips.

A loud sound interrupted their moment as Capone was banging on the window. "Hey, everyone's waiting." "So, if you're done fucking, can we get on with our problems."

Axle and Charlie started laughing.

Before they could make it inside, Priest was already coming out. Axle could sense the urgency in his friend's stride.

"Something happened at St. Dominic's, "Priest began explaining while walking towards his bike.

Axle looked at Charlie. "Babe, stay here, I need to check on Sophia." Charlie nodded.

"I'll stay with my guys, you all go." Viper suggested. Axle agreed. He rode off with Priest, Capone, Tank, and the Unholy.

[Flashback – 30 minutes ago]

Hawk and Ice decided to check on Maddox's progress. They greeted Sophia at the nurse's station. "Hey, checking on him." Sophia smiled. "You got it darling," Hawk flirted back, earning a jab to the side from Ice.

"Maddox is popular tonight," Sophia chuckled, picking up her clipboard and walking down the hall. "What do you mean popular?" Hawk asked, curious as to what she meant by that.

"One of your brothers is in there now." She answered continuing her stride not understanding what she just revealed. Ice grabbed her shoulder and stopped her. Hawk reached for his gun.

"Darling, what brothers?" Ice asked. "Skulls members, two came in literally before I saw you." "They had on your cuts," Sophia pointed at Ice's leather vest.

"Just like this one," Ice pointed at his vest, especially where the patch is stitched. Sophia tilted her head and examined the cut. She shrugged her shoulders. "I guess...I don't know Ice." "They all pretty much look alike to me."

"Shit," Hawk mumbled. "What's wrong?" "I don't understand." Sophia asked confused. "Darling, besides me and Ice, all the Skulls are at Cathedral." "No one else from the charter should be here." Hawk explained.
