Chapter 2

Two weeks later

Ymir and Reiner are outside on a picnic bench doing homework.

"Hey, Reiner."

"What?"

"Do you notice how everyone is acting weird nowadays?"

Reiner stops writing and looks up at Ymir. "What do you mean?"

Ymir glances at Bertholdt and Annie who are walking together from afar. "See, look at Bertholdt and Annie. They've been hanging around each other a lot since Marco's birthday. Every time we ask them if they're dating, they straight out deny it."

Reiner scoffs. "Of course they would. Bertholdt is a shy guy and well Annie is Annie. I can bet my whole month's paycheck that something is going on with those two."

"No argument here."

"So who else is acting weird?"

"Eren and Historia. They seem close."

"I mean we're all closer to Eren. We hung out with him a lot over the summer."

"No, it's something different between those two. Especially since that weekend before classes. Now Eren is always asking Historia to go somewhere to eat with him before he asks us, he's sitting by her a lot, and touches her. I also catch him staring at her constantly."

"Oh. I see what's going on here. You're jealous."

"HA! Me? Jealous?!"

"Well, how else did you notice all this? I didn't."

"Reiner. Come on. You're not on the bright side with these things. I can tell when a guy wants to get in a girl's pants. You're a prime example. You've been trying to get in Historia's pants since I've met you. Looks like only one of us succeeded."

Reiner rolls his eyes. "Haha, funny. Do you think Historia feels the same way Eren does?"

"Honestly? I think so. The way she acts around him now is.......different. Her eyes are....."

"Yeah, you're jealous."

"I just don't want Historia to get caught up in Eren's shit. If she gets involved with him, things could get messy and I'm not dealing with another Eren and Mikasa ordeal. Better yet, Mikasa may start trouble if she finds out who he moved on with."

"I mean it's her choice after all. You know how Historia is. Once she makes up her mind, you can't stop her."

"Yeah, I know."

"Besides, she's not like Mikasa who was devoted to Eren like he was a god or something. I kinda feel sorry for her. She'll probably remain hung up about Eren for a long time."

"I wouldn't be too sure about that."

"Is that so?"

"Mikasa and Jean."

Reiner shakes his head. "I don't believe you."

"Hey, I wouldn't believe myself either but you know what? I noticed back on the first day of classes that Jean was acting antsy. It was getting annoying but I ignored it. But then as I was walking back to the dorms, I saw Jean and Mikasa together in private, and naturally, I had to eavesdrop a little bit. It turns out that Mikasa kissed Jean."

"They kissed?"

"Yeah. On the night of the party, Jean was apologizing and telling her he didn't mean to take advantage of her."

"Did they go all the way?"

"No, they didn't go that far. A man with morals. Shouldn't be surprising I guess but here we are and I'm praising him for it. Anyway, after that conversation, I've noticed Mikasa is different towards Jean, softer. I don't think he got any action but they sure do talk more."
