Steve's pov-

It's been days since I last saw Peggy. Since I saw how she was controlling Y/n. It felt like the strings of my heart had given away when I saw what was happening to her.

For years we were living on borrowed time. And now, Peggy was taking it back.

I sat on the cold ground of my dark cell. Only one light illuminated the small room. My stab wound had finally healed. The blood, however, was staining my suit.

Suddenly the cell door opened, revealing Peggy with a swarm of soldiers behind her. "Captain." She greeted me, her blood-red lips forming an evil smile.

"What do you want?"

"Well, I want Y/n dead. I wanted her gone. So I pressed this little button. A kill switch that would electrify her brain into mush." My eyes widened as I saw the remote in her hand. No. Y/n couldn't be dead. The woman I wanted to spend the rest of my life with-

"Relax. She's not dead."

"She's not?"

"No." Peggy walked towards me, "Your little friends deactivated the chip before I could eliminate her. So she's safe...for now."

My head snapped up at that, "For now?"

"Yes. You see...I might not be able to kill her remotely. But I have connections all over the world. I have an army you would never see coming so..." She lifted her hand, a soldier handed her a small tablet. She turned it around, showing me the footage.

Y/n was shuffling through papers as she sat next to Bucky in the Avengers compound. A white bandage wrapped around her head. I could see the tears streaming down her face. Pietro was beside her in seconds, holding his sister to his chest as Bucky held her hands. They are both trying to console her.

She was back. My Y/n was back. But my heart sank again once I saw the words on the top.

'Target Locked.'

"Please. Don't kill her. I'll do anything?" I shouted, standing up as a few agents listed their guns.

Peggy lifted her hand, telling them to stand down, "Anything?" She smiled, shutting off the footage and handing it back. I nodded, "Just don't hurt her."

Suddenly, Peggy nodded, agents, grabbing me by the arms as they dragged me down the dark corridors of the underwater bunker. "You said anything, Captain. I'm taking that to heart." The agents dragged me through a door before being thrown into a chair.

"Now, Captain. I have two choices for you." I stayed silent, watching Peggy pull a mouthguard from a drawer. Restraints enclosed my arms as a machine powered above me.

"Your memories. Or her life. Choose."

I didn't need to think about it. I loved Y/n. Even If I had never told her. I feel like she knew. So this choice, the once love of my life was imposing on me, was easy.

"Her life." Peggy's face faltered slightly as I continued, "It will always be her."
