Chapter 3: No Turning Back

Kareena was in a daze, she wasn’t sure what she had just seen- Seth was alive and Liam was free, she should be relieved, but she felt so out of the loop on everything, that things just felt wrong instead. She was seated alone in her dorm room and the hologram images she’d been watching had disappeared into Mr Greys pocket watch, she closed it silently and glanced around before getting up. She raced out of her building and didn’t stop till she entered Star section. She got into Zoe’s room in a blur.

“It’s over?” Zoe asked

Kareena nodded

“And?”

“Well…Uhm, Seth is alive. Liam is free. Chris was exiled from his home”

Zoe’s eyes widened and her wide brimmed glasses didn’t help mask that, “Seth?”

“Oh, yeah…it was meant to be Chris fighting Renay but Seth showed up instead to fight…and they really did fight, it was bloody and just wrong to watch…but Seth yielded in order to let Chris win and then Liam’s dad exiled Chris because he felt it wasn’t a win…Then it was a rush and a blur really, Serena and my…parents wanted to see Seth and said they’d fill me in and that was it”

“Wowwww…that was it, huh? Just that…”

Kareena laughed and playfully pushed Zoe

“Look, its great news. Liam is your guy and he’s safe…wait, is he still your guy? And Seth is alive so that’s even more great news.”

At that moment, Mark pushed open Zoe’s door and the girls froze, “What’s great news?”, he asked with a huge smile and bag tucked under his arm 

Zoe glanced at Kareena and then back at Mark, “Kareena here, ha-d an idea for our project. A song…because you know, she sings”

Kareena glanced at Zoe, begging her with her eyes to stop talking

Mark chuckled, “I know she sings. But that is great, I’m sure you two will have the best collaboration project. Even better because you’re from different houses now”

Kareena nodded awkwardly, “So, anyone ever teach you to knock?”, she finished with a laugh

Mark scratched his head, “Yeah, my bad…Zoe asked me to meet her and drop off these tracks that I’ve mixed”

“Right!” Zoe got up and took the bag, she peered into it and nodded, “Thanks”

Mark smiled and glanced between the girls, “Okay then…I will see you guys later”

Zoe nodded and ushered him out and Kareena waved from her spot. Once Zoe closed the door, Kareena sighed, “That was close…”

Chris woke up, covered in sweat from a bad dream- he glanced about. He was in unfamiliar territory, there were white curtains drawn closed around the area he was in- this was a hospital, of that there was no doubt. He could hear voices nearby; they didn’t seem to be showing any signs of distress or warning to him. Footsteps approached his area, and a single curtain was drawn to reveal Renay, she smiled faintly at him as she approached and drew the curtain closed once more.

“What do you remember?”, she asked quietly

Chris frowned, “I remember losing, but I’m alive which means that Seth must have yielded and that would explain how I’m with you right now”, he paused, “I’ve been exiled”, he seemed calm, but she knew him better than that

Renay sat in silence on the edge of his bed, she took his hand, “Things will get better”

Chris laughed weakly and adjusted his position on the bed to sit more upright, “I’m not sure I want think about the future when my present situation is the way it is”
