Kareena decided to take a walk in the Star Kingdom gardens. She halted immediately at the sight of Rachel sitting cross legged on the floor with Scoops, Rachel was twirling her fingers about and creating patterns of flowers and roses around a very fascinated Scoops. “Mind if I join?”, she gestured to the bench that was empty.
“Not at all. Any news on your sister?”
“Not really…at this point, I don’t know if no news is good or bad. But I’m going to stay here till there’s an update.”
Rachel nodded, “I’m sure there’ll be news soon, but I guess you and I may as well get used to bumping into each other while we’re here.”
Kareena was about to say something, but Rachel wasn’t done.
“I’ll admit that I didn’t handle things well at all with our interactions but I’m not going to apologize for trying to keep you away. I hope with everything you’ve been through with Liam; you understand that there was never anything worth getting worried over- sure, there was a time that I thought Liam and I would end up together, his mother always put the idea in my head, but when he and Serena got close, I sort of realised how I actually felt then. I love him, but not that way. I guess I just got worried when he met you, we all did, but I felt like something had to be done, I just went about it all wrong so it’s understandable…why I’d been labelled as crazy. I can’t go back and change anything, but for what it’s worth, I’m glad you and Liam found each other.”
Kareena didn’t’ know what to say, but she wasn’t expecting any of that so she smiled, “You were never crazy. You should actually be getting an award for being the smartest person of the lot by trying to shut things down before it could escalate. Maybe if things played out the way you hoped and if I actually listened, none of this would even be happening now…but I guess some forces are just too strong to stop. I actually wanted to apologize to you…I haven’t always been the easiest person to be around, and the dinner we had and the comment I made about your family still messes me up. I’m really sorry for that. I know we can’t have a do-over from the start, but maybe we can try our hand at being friends?”
Rachel smiled, “Why not?”
Kareena smiled, feeling a sense of accomplishment. “I have to ask you something, it’s been bugging me for a while.”
Rachel looked at her.
“How is it that every animal likes you?”
Rachel laughed.
“Seriously, Leo, Harou…Scoops. I wouldn’t be surprised if Apollo liked you too.”
“I knew Leo from the time he was a cub, so he’s different. But I think it’s got something to do with my power. Animals are basically a part of nature, and I can control certain elements of nature so...”
Kareena nodded, “That makes sense.”
“Speaking off animals, have you gotten yours yet?”
Kareena moaned, “No. I thought for a while that I did, because of this deer I helped…”
Skylar ran up to the girls interrupting the conversation, “Kareena! Your sister is back! I saw her with my dad just now!”
Kareena got up and rushed off.
***
Kareena had just caught up with her sister as she and King Alastair were about to enter the council room, “Are you okay?”
Serena looked back and smiled, “Never better- I’ll catch up with you in a bit if that’s okay?”
Kareena only then noticed the top ranked Elites walk past her into the room, “Something is wrong…isn’t it?”
