Endless Promises Pt. 2

"Felix?" Tarla asked, knocking on his door.

"Wait- I'm-" Felix stumbled towards his door, tripping over his backpack and avoiding stepping on any of the sheets of paper he'd arranged on the floor.

"What's... all this?" Tarla asked, glancing from a disheveled Felix to the plan that Felix had quite literally laid out.

"The reason I called you over." Felix glanced around at the different papers, stopping at the first one. "Ok so as you know, play the piano right? And as you've probably guessed by this point, I write my own stuff too." Tarla blinked slowly, nodding her head slowly.

"Did not guess that but not surprised, anyway, continue."

"Ok, so not that long ago, I might have written a song for my parents, right? And I'm currently attempting to figure out how exactly to show it to them. Cause like it's a big thing? It's gonna be my first time playing any of my original stuff for anyone other than myself ya know. And the lyrics are- a lot. And I have some ideas, and I'm not sure what exactly to do though." Felix stopped, taking a deep breath.

"Okay," Tarla said slowly. "First show me your ideas? I can help you figure it out? Also before you do that- first of all, huge, super proud of you; second, thank you for trusting me with this; third, don't worry, we'll figure out an awesome way to show them but I'm sure no matter what you choose they'll love it." Felix nodded, a haphazard smile strewn across his face.

"Okay, first idea, on the back of my math homework from last year, in the backyard, fairy lights covering the tree, somehow moving the piano there, little printed copies of the lyrics for each of them, a blanket with pillows on it, super aesthetic."

"Fun, super aesthetic, very pretty, but also very hard to do without your moms finding out, and also moving a piano?" Tarla tilted her head, sitting down next to Felix on the floor in front of the papers.

"True, moving the piano was the only big issue I found with it but I guess setting it up without them finding out would be hard too." Felix ran a hand through his hair glancing at the second sheet.

"I mean it could be possible if we got some people to set it up for you, but that requires getting more people involved and also involves a lot more work."

"No, no you're right. Okay idea two, on the back of some essay I wrote last year. What if we record it, make it into a USB I guess, make it like a little gift, add a note that says listen to it together?"

"Okay, very possible first of all. But I thought you wanted to play it for them? Like, live?"

"I mean I do wanna play it live, but I figured this would be more polished?" Felix tilted his head, squinting.

"Do you want it to be more polished or more raw? Cause if you sing it live you can sing it how you feel you want to in the moment." Tarla glanced up from the sheet to look at Felix.

"Live. I wanna play it live. So that rules out plan two and plan four. So I only have plans three and five left."

"Okay," Tarla said slowly.

"I think I like plan five a bit more than plan three, but lemme tell you both. So plan three is to rent a keyboard- like the portable ones and just play it in the living room, maybe decorate the living room, say it's for a fall party or something? And plan five is make my room as aesthetic as I can, put more like pillows and stuff on my bed, have my moms sit there, and play it for them?" Felix glanced up at Tarla, piling the ruled-out plans into a pile.
