Chapter 19

January 27, 2019

3 A.M.

Skylar's POV:

I slowly start to wake up opening my eyes a little but closing them again. I feel the warm blanket wrapped around me. I feel light and the bed is so soft. A familiar scent fills my nostrils and my eyes pop open. I scan the room realizing it's not mine and then my eyes land on him.

He's sat in a chair in the corner reading a book. He's reading a book? I rub my eyes to see more clearly. It's The Great Gatsby. He's actually reading it.

"Well hello there petal." He says not looking up from his book. I feel my chest get warm at the name and hide my smile.

"You're reading." I slowly say still trying to adjust my eyes.

"Yes" he says flipping the page. I smile at him knowing he's not looking.

"What time is it?" I ask looking around seeing it's still dark.

"3 in the morning." He says still reading. Wow he must really be into it if he's not looking up from it.

"Have you not slept?" I furrow my eyebrows together asking a question.

"Wanted to keep an eye on you to make sure you were okay. So to answer your question, no I have not slept." He flips the page again.

"I'm sorry" I apologize feeling bad.

"Don't apologize petal." He smiles shaking his head looking down at his book.

"When did this new nickname come about?" I ask since he's never called me that before.

"Since you woke up the first time when I brought you inside. You started talking about flowers and the bright colors. It was super random but the name felt fitting." He says finally looking up at me. I sit up in the bed and he closes the book. He sits it down on the table and stands to walk towards me. He kneels down at the side of the bed and looks at me.

"How are you feeling?" He places his hand on top of mine and I feel a jolt in my body. How do his simplest touches make me feel that way?

"I feel kinda like shit and maybe a little drunk still." I say and he smiles.

"I'll go get you some water." He says rubbing my hand before standing up.

"Can I come?" I ask curious to know what his house looks like.

"If you want to yeah." He smiles. I push the blankets off and stand up instantly reaching for his shoulder so that I don't fall. He grabs onto my arms and stares at me with a worried look.

"Are you okay?" His grip on my arms is tight but I think he just doesn't want me to fall.

"Yeah I think I just stood up too fast." I shake my head looking down. His hand runs down my arm and goosebumps form on my skin. Once he reaches my hand he grabs onto it holding it. He nods his head towards the door before he starts walking and I follow.

Once we make it downstairs he makes me a glass of water and puts it in front of me. He places his arms down onto the counter in front of me and smirks.

"What?" I ask lifting the glass up to my lips.

"I like you being here." He says leaning lower to be eye to eye with me.

"You do?" I ask quickly taking another sip of water. I earn a chuckle from him and I sit the glass back down.

"Yeah, it's different." He says walking around and sitting next to me.
