stellarosedutton The reader never really celebrated Christmas growing up. So Ryan decided to show her how to celebrate."Hey Y/n, you excited for Christmas eve?" My boyfriend Ryan comes to stand beside me while I lean on the fence watching dad's new horses he's training for the rodeo. Tipping my brown hat up I shrug my shoulders. "Not really...I've never really celebrated it." He raises a brow seeing sadness in my eyes. He's not used to seeing me upset like I am right now. Ryan looks over at my dad, the famous John Dutton. He gets an idea in his head walking back to the Bunkhouse.
Christmas used to be something that my family celebrated. That was until mom died by a horse crushing her on a ride with my sister and youngest brother Kayce. After mom was gone everything changed. Dad taught is all jobs to do that would benefit the ranch. So Christmas became something that is no longer celebrated on this ranch. No one wanted to with mom gone since it was her favorite holiday.
Hours later I head to the Bunkhouse wanting to see Ryan. But I don't see any lights on which is weird they just got done with work so they'll eat before going to bed. "Suprise Y/n!" Ryan cheers flipping on the lights making me squint at the lights. In the corner of the Bunkhouse is a small decorated Christmas tree. "Look I know you're family doesn't celebrate because of your mom, but I thought-" I cut him off throwing myself into his arms catching him off guard at first.
"You are the best boyfriend I could've asked for, Ryan." I smile giggling as he wrapped his arms around me smiling too. "Y/n, you are the best girlfriend." When we break away he kisses my forehead whispering. "I saw your dad earlier and asked if I could put the tree topper in here." He leads me over to a small box letting me open it. Tears form in my eyes at seeing it after all these years. Brushing my fingers over it I feel like mom is here in the room with me.
Gently I lift it out of the box cardiling the horse in my hands. Mom loved horses more than anything. So instead of a traditional angel ontop of the tree, we'd put this one up. Stepping up on the stool I slowly place it on the tree getting down to make sure it's straight. "There you go mom, like you never left..." I breathe out feeling Ryan's arm go around my waist, his chin ontop of my head. "Thank you, I really needed this Ryan." He tilts my chin up gently kissing me. "Anything for my girl. Merry Christmas Y/n Dutton." I kissed him back smiling as we sit on the couch looking at the tree.
