(R) Ranch Friends

Request from wolffy_AK_hunter15 Ryan and the reader were best friends when they were little. The reader starts working on the ranch and the pair are reunited.

Ryan's POV
Waking up this morning I get dressed wearing my hat and slipping Y/n's bracelet on my right hand. Y/n L/n and I have been best friends since we were kids, but sadly she had to move states when her dad got a new job near the city. Before she left she gave me this simple brown bracelet with a heart charm on the end as a way to remember her. God I really do miss her.

The sun has barely risen over the fields as I'm saddling up my horse again after the rest of the boys in the Bunkhouse finished eating lunch. "Ryan!" Rip shouted from the barn having me head over to see a girl that looks familiar standing between him and my boss, John Dutton. "This girl here says she knows you. Ain't that right, Y/n?"

My whole body froze at the sight. It'd been years since I had seen her last. Her hair color was still the same but a little longer. Seeing her in a flannel, jeans and boots was no different than when we were 10 years old. But she's still shorter than me like always. Her eyes stare into mine brightly. "Ryan, it's me Y/n." I blushed a little as she runs tackling me in a hug. "How the hell are you here?" I breathed into her hair hugging her back with a smile.

"You kiss your mother with that mouth cowboy!" She pulls away lightly hitting me in the chest. Playfully shaking my head no I smirk a little. "No ma'am. Although I'd gladly kiss you." Y/n blushes a little trying to hide in my jacket. "Ryan...not in front of the boss."

Y/n was 13 years old when she moved away but I finally woke up the nerve to tell her I had a crush on her. But we never got to explore our feelings after that. My boss tips his tan hat up smiling at us. "Ryan, I'd like you to officially meet the newest member of the Yellowstone Bunkhouse." Pulling away from her slightly I see a huge grin on her face.

"Wait so you're seriously - joining the brand?" I hadn't got the brand yet because it had to be earned. Y/n grabs my hat and places it on her head still grinning. "Yep, I am. Couldn't let you suffer through another 15 years without me."

My boss chuckled at the sight of my best friend. Although Rip goes into his tough boss mode, tipping his hat to John. "Alright, there'll be more time to catch up later. Get to working and teaching her the ropes!" He goes and climbs on his horse riding off to put the others to work.

"Mr. Dutton. I'll do my best to keep this ranch alive." Y/n rests a hand over her heart removing my hat. John nods in approval revealing a light brown hat from behind his back. "Living up to earn the brand is all I ask, miss L/n." He gives her the hat that she sits on her head going to saddle up a horse.

I put my hat back on my head heading to enter the barn but his voice stopped me. "Ryan.." Looking over my shoulder I reply. "Yes, sir?"

"I want to make one thing clear. You live and work on this ranch, but I don't want relationships affecting any of the work." He stares deeply at me with a small smile on his face. "Do you understand me?"

Nodding my head yes I vow to my boss. "Don't worry, sir. My best interest will always be for this ranch." John pats me on the shoulder heading to his house. "Good. Be nice to that girl, she's a keeper."
