Classes had started for everyone and the assignments were driving people nuts.
They all had different classes, shared one or two but their lunch was at the same time. They met up then and hung out.
Aly and Tammy had already formed a formidable team and were conquering their social lives. They had party invites and so many boys asking for dates or phone numbers. One or two didnt understand the meaning of not interested but Austin and Kai were threatening enough from a glance to Keep them at bay. Some kids from their former school were there as well. Their previous reputation might followed them a bit.
Somehow Kai ended up making friends with the older students 3rd years and 4th years.
Most people got confused when they twins called used female pronouns on her but the guys in the dorm used male pronouns. Others just ended up using gender neutral pronouns for her. She didn't mind which one.
Turns out Lee the cute roommate is very gay and Tammy was pretty insistent that he has a crush on Kai.

Zoe made friends with the basketball team. She was the second girl playing for the boys team. The first one was a third year in Architecture major. Tall strapping, Russian with a cute nerdy girlfriend in Medicine. She introduced Vanya to Kai and the two have been best buddies from then.
Its been a month and she was starting to get texts from home or the  house because it didn't feel like home. It hasnt for years.
Berkeley was actually pretty good for her.
Also her and Kai had been texting and calling back and forth. And boyyyyy was the girl just the right amount of sappy and sweet.
Zoe didn't even know how much she liked sappy things until Kai.
But thats it.
No Kisses
No cuddling
No dates
Na da.
Zilch
Zero
I think you get the idea but what the hell.
Its like they are penpals.
Think of the devil and he shall appear.
Zoe could see Kai and Vanya walking to the court together.
Laughing and bumping shoulders. She had her first but now its always hanging out with Vanya, Talking to Vanya.
Oh no. She's turning into one those girls. Jealous and possessive.
Zoe pinched her nose and groaned. When she opened her eyes, she wasnt expecting to see Kai right in her face.

Kai watched Zoe jerk and lose her balance. She caught her and held her against her body.
"Re-enacting past days are we?"
"Hie." Kai chuckled and let Zoe up.
Zoe wanted to smile at her but that green monster held herr in its clutches and whispered evil things in her ear. She saw Kai and Vanya together. Her eyes hardened and she stepped away from her. Pain made her tear up but pride kept them from falling.

Kai saw the posture change in Zoe. And that dread coiled in her lungs, fear of loss stretched its tendrils towards her heart.
"Zolana"
"No. No Kai." Zee turned to walk away, "Zoe!"
Kai never raised her voice and never ever called her by her name.
She turned around, wide eyed and face pale.
"What? What happened to Zolana? Beautiful?"
"If there's something i did tell me so i can apologize. Dont look at me like that."
"My friend your woman needs to be reassured of your love for her."
"Zolana, is that it?"
"i dont know what she's talking about and I'm not yours anyway." Zoe's cheeks and ears turned crimsom as she looked down.
Vanya shook her head and left them together. She needed to look for her beautiful girl anyways.
Young love.

"Zolana are you mad at me cause I've been hanging out with Vanya?"
"Well not really but-"
"But what?" Kai stepped back into Zoe's personal space and held her hands.
"But you are with her all the time i wanna see you. And we only talk on the phone."
"So you miss me?"
"I guess so."
"Look at me Zolana."
Zoe raised her face and looked at her. A soft smile on her lips. Kai caressed her face gently and kissed her forehead  then her cheeks, her nose and lastly her mouth.
It was a soft kiss, gentle and yet so filling. A whimper tore itself from Zoe's throat. She pushed herself closer to Kai.
"Go out with me on a date Zolana. Please."
She was still reeling from the simple but powerful kiss.
"Yes."
"Good. Next time tell me when I fuck up so i can fix it okay?"
"Okay. When is this date?"
"This weekend, Saturday night."
"Where you gonna ask already or did you just ask cause i was mad at you?"
"Look at your phone baby."
Zee checked her phone,
Text from Kai☺
You got plans this weekend?

"Oh didnt see that text."
"Now you know. By the way you are kinda hot when you are mad but i dont want you to be mad at me."
Kai hightailed it from the court leaving a speechless Zoe.

Her last lesson ended at 3pm. Kai had time on her hands.
She sat in her truck as she dialed Richards cell.
"Hello"
"Hey Kai. How are you?"
"I'm alright. What time are you finishing work today?"
"I'm not busy right now. You can come to my office and we can hang out if you like."
"I would like that. Send me the address."
"Alright. Let me know when you are at the reception so they can let you up."

While he waited, Richard was a ball of nerves. He had not interacted with Kai without anybody else around yet. He placed a food order from the restaurant across the street, including the apple juice she favored.
His mind was rapidly firing up conversation ideas and everything that could go wrong then her past hospital records came to mind and that stayed at the forefront. Now all he could do was worry for her and regret not being there all these years.
He was on auto pilot when his secretary let him know Kai had arrived and was on her way up tohis office and so was the food order.
