Cold showers are good for the body and soul.
Kai felt goodddd.
A week away from 18. She didnt look bad.
Seeing her own reflection blink at her like another person was kind of funny.
Jet black hair with blue ends curtesy of a crazy best friend, standing at 6'0 which is pretty tall for a female but then hey you dont pick and choose when your body wants best of both worlds.
Her body-
"Kai baby have you seen- oh heavens put some clothes on."
"Oh come on mom, you know what i look like and besides you could have just knocked. Its not your room ma'am."
"Oh chatty chatty its my house anyways. Are you decent yet?"
Kai was restraining her laugh looking at her mothers turned back and impatiently tapping right foot.
"Yes I'm decent. What were you looking for?"
"The decorating box, its not in the attic.
"Yes ma'am. Why do you need that box? I took it because i had feeling you'd throw a surprise party for me and i dont want it."
"But your are turning 18 baby. You never have big parties. I thought this one would be a big deal."
"I dont want a surprise party mom. Me and Tammy will just do a roadtrip and take pictures."
Rissa gave her daughter a side eye. She was shrugging off her 18th birthday like it wasnt a big deal. This kid is just too good for her own sake. I have no idea how i got this lucky Rissa thought.
"Alright appease me lets make a deal. We have a mini party me you tammy and our people then next day you and Tammy do your roadtrip."
"Define mini party mom? "
"I'll just invite whoever you want for dinner and cake. Thats it and presents of course."
"Hmmm sounds fair. But you know you owe me right?  You promised 18 and you'll spill all of it. His name and the whole story mom."
"I know, I know. And i will keep my promise. Is that the  only thing you are thinking of?"
"I dont know but you promised so. " Kai shrugged as she swept her hair up to tie it.
"I'm curious about something though and stop fussing with your hair,  you keep it in the same style everyday. Why for heaven's sake do you not have a girlfriend? I'm getting worried now."
Rissa watched her daughter go red and then explode with laughter.
"Mom are you serious right now? Mommmmm i dont need a girl right  now. I have enough things to deal with andddd to top it off I'm wayyyy too picky like someone i know."
Rissa was so getting the look from her child.
"Hey hey dont do that. I have nothing to do with this."
Escape route please.
Rissa tossed a pillow at her child and walked out the door.
Kai screamed chicken at the closed door.

"You cant wear jeans to dinner idiot."
"Seriously Tammy its my birthday. And i get to wear what i want."
"Unbelievable. Come on just wear that black slack, white tshirt and a blazer. Pleaseeeeeeeee."
"You abuse me."
Tammy did a happy dance as Kai changed her clothes.
Forced or not,  she looked pretty good.  Tammy dragged her best friend from the mirror before she started weirdly dissecting and assessing herself again.

"Come on birthday girl. I got cake with my name on it."
"Shouldn't the cake have my name on it?"
"Of cause it does. You know what i mean you oaf!"
Kai shook her head at her small spitfire for a best friend.
Tammy was small in stature probably kissing 5'3 by a smidgen. But who was checking,  girl had a massive personality to make up for the height.
You couldn't deny her presence. Tammy's aura demanded to be recognized and acknowledged. A big spirit that luckily was full of good but some mischief too.
She probably was the color in Kai's life excluding her mom. Must be the reason why she could get away with being bossy.
Why are small women so bossy anyways?

"Happy Birthday to you. Happy birthday to youuuuuu."
Of cause Tammy did the extra vocals.
Making a wish that surprised her too, Kai blew out the candles on her cake.
The cake if you were wondering is chocolate everything!!
Who doesn't love chocolate?!

"What did you wish for Honey?"
"Promise you wont laugh mom."
All she got was vigorous nods from both her mom and Tammy.
"I wished that I'd find a warrior princess. Its this stupid thing that i just think about. Its silly."
Rissa looked at her daughter. It didn't look like it was silly. It must be important.
"Its not silly honey. Its your wish. But let me warn you, warriors are never easy to be close to. So bee ready for that. Happy birthday munchkin."
"Arent i too old to be called munchkin?"
"Turn 40 and we can talk about it."
Everybody laughed at the comment that her mother had decided to shout.
Oh well it is what it is.

The candle on the edge of the tub flickered and danced at its own silent song.
Staring at the blueish patches of skin on her body,  Zoe thought she could be mistaken for a fighter.
She laughed without mirth and wondered if that's what warriors of old looked like under their armor.
Her candle blew itself out.
Zoe just sighed and pushed it aside as she stepped out the tub.
You ever wonder what it feels like to have somebody tell you I'll look after you and fight for you?
I want that but in this world you fight for yourself.
Zoe steeled herself and felt like she was putting on armor.
