Zee watched from the window as the black truck with a motorbike in the back parked in the driveway. She could see the girl in the passenger seat and her heart twisted but she reminded herself that Kai didn't seem like the type to cheat, but you never know with people.
She wanted to trust her gut but she needed proof.
The occupants of the truck stepped out well one jumped out. She was small maybe 5'3 or 5'2 but definitely beautiful. She wondered if that was Kai's type, small and pretty. Maybe she was too tall and not feminine enough for her. A dark voice boomed at the back of her mind how she would never be enough, another voice softer but still harsh reminded her that other than a good fuck she had nothing to offer.
Her throat closed and she couldn't handle all these thoughts and doubts messing with her mind. Just as she moved from the window, Kai in all her handsome glory walked in.
Zee took in the new haircut, the silver eyes and those kissable lips. Her mind said look lower but her eyes stayed connected to those pools of silver that seemed to draw her in.
Those dark thoughts threatened to bury her and make her feel small in her own skin. They almost won,
"Zolana."
Everything went quiet.
It seemed like they all never existed other than that voice.

Kai had walked in the house praying and hoping that Zoe was there. She wouldn't say it outloud but she was worried and wouldn't be settled until she made sure herself that Zoe was okay.
She saw her standing behind the twins but her eyes spoke of a war that she seemed to be losing. She twitched as though she wanted to leave and Kai didnt want that.
"Zolana."
Kai opened her arms for her but made no move to go to her. She didn't want Zoe to feel cornered.
It worked.
Zee walked into those open arms and her skin felt warm instead of crawling like before. Even with how tall she felt, her head reached Kai's chin. She fit in snug and hid her face in Kai's neck.
Safe.
That's the feeling she got when Kai held her.
Complete.
That's the definition of having Zoe in her arms.

Tammy took a picture of them hugging and Aly was busy awwing at how cute it was.
Kai knew Zee would get embarrassed if she saw everyone looking at them, she mouthed at Aly to go away.
It was just the two of them left in foyer.
"I missed you Zolana."
"Really?"
Words were muffled against her skin but she heard her fine.
"Yes i did. Can i have your phone number now?"
Zee chuckled as she tried to step away from Kai.
"Uh uh ahh. I need an answer before you go."
Zoe's eyes sparkled mischief as she looked up at her. Zoe perked her right on the lips. The unexpected kiss made Kai relax and Zoe made a run for it.
Kai chuckled as she walked to the dining room where she could hear the others talking.
Zoe was still giggling as ahe entered the room.

The pizzas were demolished and everybody was in high spirits.
Tammy was easy to get along with, her hyperness and dramatic attitude was entertaining. She told them stories of a younger Kai. Richard gave her all his attention when she told stories like that.
He shuffled every detail into the part of his memory reserved for his kids.
He got kicked out later when the pjs came out but before he left Kai took pictures of  everyone together having a blast.
Somehow later ice cream came out, Tammy and kim were all over the place on a sugar high.

Zoe needed some quiet for a bit. Her ribs hurt from laughing too much or maybe not so old wounds acting up.
She ended up in the sunroom where she could see outside even the stars which were all out and bright.
She wasnt alone for long.
The door opened and closed with a silent click.
The cologne wafted to her and only one person smells like that.
"You stole a kiss Zolana. And i didn't get to  return it. That's not fair."
"Who says i want another?"
"Hmmmm you dont have to. This is good enough." Kai hugged her from behind and kissed the back of her head. Her hold was gentle yet strong. Zoe snuggled deeper into her hold. This girl was turning her into a cuddler.
"i registered at Berkeley."
"That means you might be seeing more of me."
"Uhuh. I'm staying at the dorms. Do you think we are in the same wing or even roommates?"
Dread pooled at the bottom of Kai's stomach. She tightened her hold for a second.
"I don't think we are roommates. Will you play for the school team?"
"Yeah. Its part of my scholarship."
"Can i watch your games?"
"You don't have to, I'm not all that."
"I'll be there for you anyways."
Zoe just hummed and looked up at the stars.
"You are beautiful Zolana."
"Liar." "Never."
"You are just saying that."
"You are beautiful Zolana. Eyes that remind me of meadows on a starry summer night or a forest glade in spring time. I could say so much more but you'd not believe me."
"So you are just gonna throw in the towel."
"Feisty. No I'm not. I'm gonna tell you until you believe me someday."
"You think there's gonna be more to us for days to come."
"i want more of us for years and years to come. Just like the stars will always be hung in the sky."
Zoe could feel her heart stuttering at that underhanded promise.
