Richard sat in his office looking at his best friend and also lawyer Daniel Fern.
Big guy, 6'3 brown hair with lighter highlights, brushed back but some strands too stubborn. Hazel eyes and a beauty mark on the bottom of his right eye.
"Talk to me Rich,"
"Promise me you'll shut up till I'm done."
"Sounds a little creepy but okay. Promise."
"Great. When Rissa left she was pregnant. I didn't know. She never said a word. Two weeks ago our child showed up on my doorstep. I have an 18yr old daughter. She's a combination of me and Rissa. No questions asked. She sorta reminds me of my father weirdly. Her name is Kai. So she's here. Situation number 2. Kai is starting college next week. I tried to offer to pay for some things she refused but she asked for a favor. More like something overdue but as a favor to her i gotta see it through. The favor being Zoe. Keeping up?"

"You have a daughter with your first love and she doesnt want your money but a favor concerning Zoe. Zoe being Austins best friend i know her. Whats the connection between her and Kai?"

"Right, Zoe is in deepshit at home. Over the years I've seen signs tried to interfer but Zoe always refused help. This time she got it bad and Kai wants me to do something unless I'm looking forward to a funeral and with what i saw i agree with her. But i need your help. She's a few months shy 18. Smart and talented. Her mom passed away left in the care of her stepfather. It wasnt like this, things have escalated. Help me here."

"Okay. So physical abuse. Option 1 wait for her birthday."
"She'll suffer or worse die before then."
"Option 2. Get evidence and get a restraining order against the stepfather. Make it a court case. She needs a guardian for those proceedings."
" no faster option?"
"She can bait him. Get the cops there while he's in the act. Straight to jail. Court as a formality to see how long he should be put away for but definitely he'll be arrested instantly."
"But baiting him she will have to hold her own till they arrive at the house."
"Yeah. All you have to do is convince her and I'll do the rest."
"Okay then."
"Now thats handled. Are you fucking insane!?"
"What for!? You idiot? "
Dan smacked his friend while emphasizing each word.
"How!  Did!  You!  Not!  Know!? "
"About what!?"
"That you had a child."
"Ughhhhh i didnt know oky. I was nursing a heartbreak and trying to treat the woman i had married with respect and at the very least affection."
"I know. It just felt good to smack you a bit."
"Oh why you misbegotten-"
Dan just ran from the office cackling like a deranged hyena as he went.

Zoe was a bundle of energy and nerves.
Austin was having a field day watching her go from confident and assertive to nervous and shy then back to the beginning.
"Soooo are you gonna keep pacing or are you gonna come up with a plan anytime soon?"
"Shush. I'm thinking."
"Hmmm you've never had a solid relationship or tried to woo a girl who didn't fall in your lap so I'd say you are stranded."
"Dude i know that."
"You need help."
"Yeah i guess."
"Aly."
"Hell no!"
"Good luck doing this yourself."
"Why can't you help me?"
"Dude I'm like you but with a permanent d."
"You are insane."
Austin didn't get a chance to answer Kim and Aly walked into the room with a tray of muffins.

"Hey girls."
"Hie you two. What were you talking about?"
"Nothing." "Zee's love life." Zoe and Austin answered at the same time. Aly raised an eyebrow at the two. "Uhuh. Nothing you say."

Kim just snickered looking at them. She was literally buzzing waiting for Kai to come back. Can't believe she's driving, a flight would have been faster. But, as long as she's coming thats good.
The tray of muffins was cleaned up fast amidst the laughter and ribbing being tossed around.
Thats what Richard and Daniel walked in on.
Richard took out his phone and took a  picture. The bloody thing made a shutter sound.

"What the fuckk! Daddd!!!"
"Language and i didn't know it would make a sound."
Aly shook her head watching her fathers flustered face.
Kim attached herself to her gentle giant of an uncle (nobody in the courthouse knows that), "Hey uncle Dan."
"Hey poppet. Are you being good?"
"Its a 50/50 thing Uncle Dan, you know me."
"That i do. Now your dad tells me that you lot have a new sister now."
Daniel watched his godkids light up at the mention of their half sibling. Seems like they already love her.
"She's soo tall, like dad." Kim emphasized with her hands.
Aly smiled showing her one dimple, "she's sweet too."
Austin looked like he was about to vibrate in his seat, "she's awesome Uncle Dan like super."
And Zoe the cute thing even with her bruised up face you could see her crimson cheeks and red tipped ears.
"So you guys arent mad at your dad for any of this?"
Aly shook her head, "Nope."
Austin pursed his lips before he answer him, "well its not like he cheated on mom. We know him and mom had a merger marriage."
Richard added his two cents to that comment, "me and your mother werent married the conventional way but I've never cheated on her. I treated her with the utmost respect and we loved each other in our own way."
"We know dad. Kai is part of our family too now." Kim hugged her dad.
Dan breathed a sigh of relief knowing the kid was accepted. The only family member bound to raise a fit was their grandfather now, that grumpy old man.
