Kai walked into Richards office all 6'0 black boot and jean clad with a black tshirt stretched across her broad shoulders with dark shades obscuring her silver eyes from view. Richard is very sure his PA drooled a bit.
He didn't know whether to hug her or handshake.
He just went for the hug and it was returned just as strongly.
Perhaps they both realised how this was their first hug and held on for a bit longer.
"Come sit, sit."
"Thank You. I'm not disturbing you am i?"
"No you are not. I would still make time for you. Tell me whats going on? Everything alright?"
"Yeah. I wanted to see you is all."
Richard signed for the food. "I had ordered us some chow. And i get apple juice for you."
Kai chuckled as she watched Richard bouncing on the soles of his feet, sso excited.
"Thanks. I love apple juice."
"Quench my thirst. What was mini Kai like growing up?"
"Uhhhh i was okay i think."
"I bet there's stories"
"Umm lets see. Mom always said she wanted to chip me, cause i kept going off by myself on adventures."
"You ran from her."
"No. I would just walk around aimlessly and my sense of time was not that good yet so i would be gone for hours and think it wasn't that long till i get home and Ma is pacing in the driveway."
"You still like adventures? I see your posts about roadtrips."
"Yes. I still do." Richard shifted on the couch and faced his first born child. The nonchalant mood turned serious.
"I got access to your hospital records, where you gonna tell me?"
Kai sighed deeply and for a moment Richard saw a battle worn soul. "I was. I just didn't know how to say it."
"Say it as it is. The truth cannot be dressed up in glitter and sashes. It must be naked."
Kai snickered and looked at Richard, he looked at her too and they burst out laughing like mad people.
"That was something." "Yeah. I never wanted to transition to either gender. I guess being half of each kinda appealed to me."
He drew a file from his desk and opened it. "What about this surgery, why did you need it?"
"My womb was not fully formed. Severely stunted and it had potential to cause problems even cancer as time went on, surgical removal was best option."
"Can you procreate?"
He thumbed through xrays and scans from different years.
"Yes i can. I needed testosterone shots when i was younger but not anymore. Everything is settled."
"I'll find the best doctor here so you can do your checkups."
"You dont have-"
"Yes i do. Let me take care of you somehow. Please Kai."
His phone kept going off and he had specifically said unless it was an emergency he didn't want to be disturbed.
"Answer it. I'm not leaving yet."
"Yes? " "your father is on his way up. You know i cant stop him. He just said to tell you he's here."
"I know. Ok."
Richards secretary was frantic on the phone. His father was in the building. Kai is in his office.
He wasn't ready for them to meet but it was bound to happen eventually.
The man of the hour strode into his office like the boss he has always been.
"Whats this i hear about a half sister?"
"Afternoon to you too father."
"Dont placate me. Answer the question."
Richard Snr looked around his sons office and spotted the boy sitting on his couch. He ignored him but the medical records on the table caught his attention. He looked them over and saw the names written in it and the physical condition listed.
"She couldn't even give you a normal child."
Kai's eye twitched at the underhanded jab at her mother. "Dont insult my mother."
"Father this is Kai."
She stood up to her full height, she was almost head to head with Richard Snr. Kai looked at the frowning man with grey sideburns and the salt and paper beard attesting to his age but his blue eyes shined with intelligence. He had slight crows feet around his eyes. The black and maroon suit he wore screamed sophistication and class.
Richard Snr sized up the 'boy' who claimed to be his son's child. Tall built, clearly handsome with striking silver eyes.
"She looks like a boy." He said pointing at her.
"She looks how she wants."
"With a mouth on it too."
"Yes it does."
Richard watched his father and child size each other as though they would fight. He was surprised Snr wasn't screaming as much as he thought he would be. It was kinda worrying as well sincehe didn't know if he plans up his sleeve.
Richard senior perched on the arm rest of the couch. "Your condition is correctable. It says you didnt, why? Rissa couldn't afford it?"
"That sneer and her name cannot be in the same sentence if this conversation must remain civil."
Richard Senior drew up one brow as he watched Kai sit back on the couch and interlock her fingers as though in a meeting.
Her posture screamed dominance and demanded respect.
He commended her backbone.
"It was an innocent question. Dont take offense so easy."
"We both know it wasnt."
Richard made a move to intervene, "how about-" they both cocked their heads with a raised brow as though to ask his audacity at interrupting them. He had seen that look on his fathers face for years and it seems that Kai inherited it.
Richard senior placed his focus back on Kai, "you were saying?"
"it was feasible but i didn't want that surgery. The health threatening parts were taken care of."
"So you chose to be a freak?"
Richard watched the dangerous smile form on her lips. If he didn't know he knew now, "I didn't go to Walmart and pick this from a shelf neither did my parents whom one is your son. I have a sliver of respect for you because I know what you have accomplished. A sliver because i know of you but i dont know you. That sliver can very much be eradicated Mr Williams."
"You are a Williams without question. So how do we address you? Is it He or She or They?"
"I am my mothers daughter and my fathers son. I am Kai."
