Have Hope

Waiting for her to wake up is torture.
I keep checking on her and she looks the same, black and blue and bandaged up. Austin wont talk whats going on. But I'm not stupid.
Somebody is and has been hurting her for a long time now.
She seems like a fighter. Whoever it is must havee something she's willing to die for.
They gotta have something on her.
I wiped her brow and passed feather light touches over her eyes. Herr lashes were long and tickling my skin.
She's so beautiful.
Kai took out her sketch book. And started drawing. Shee already had a picture of what she wanted to draw, it was stuck in her head.
She used coloring pencils this time. She missed her painting tools and canvases. They would have done a better job at mapping this down.
She drew for hours. Lost track of time.
When her trance like state was disturbed by a knock, she had pages of different images and each one showed its own emotion. Some were unfinished and some pages were completely covered by pencil and ink.
Knock again.
"Come in."
It was Alyce. With a tray of food.
"I brought you some food. You didn't come down to eat dinner. Any change?"
"No. She's still out. Her breathing is even and there's no blood in her mouth or ears. Pray there isnt any building in her chest or somewhere else."
"Dad said if she's not awake by tomorrow morning, doesnt matter what she goes to a hospital or he calls a doctor."
"I agree with that."
"Wanna take turns watching her? You need to rest too."
"Dont worry. I'm fine."
We both let the silence sit in for a bit. The food was good but there was a lump in my throat and i felt like throwing up. So i just set the tray down. Barely ate it. I could see Alyce's side look at me.
"Can i ask you something Kai?"
"Yeah. Shoot"
"How did you know she was hurt?"
"Ummm i cant explain it. I sort of feel the pain of someone who is important to me. It feels like my heart is trying to explode or its being squeezed."
"Where you ever wrong sometimes?"
"It doesnt happen everyday. The few times it has happened, i was never wrong."
"Doesnt it scare you?"
"It does. I always wonder what if I'm too late. What if I'm too far away. It scares me because i dont wanna lose someone whom i could have saved by just listening to my heart."
"She will be okay. Call me if you need something."
She hugged me and left along with the food tray.
I told my mom i dont mind if i have siblings and if they accept me.
But come to think of it now, i do mind.
It would have hurt worse than it does being judged by strangers.
Kai sighed and ran her hand through her hair.
She sat back and leaned on the headboard. Closing her eyes for a minute. It turned to deep breathes and a power nap.
She woke up cause of a nightmare.
A man like creature had Zoe in its arms and was sinking its teeth into her side. Her screams were anguish and fear. The creature stood on a mound of bodies of the people she caredd about it.
In the nightmare Kai was chained to a post and pegs that came from the ground.
The thought of being helpless while everyone you love dies left her hollow.
Walked into the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. She looked normal as ever just a bit sweaty.
Her silver eyes drew her attention.
It must be something else for people who see her for the first time. Closing them for a minute before she washed her and face and changed into a sweatshirt and sweatpants.
She went back into the room and found Zoe fidgeting in her slumber.
Kai craddled her head and held her hand.
"I'm here. Just open your eyes. I'm here."
Kai kept trying to cox Zoe to wake up but nothing happened. She just fidgeted.
She stayed there holding her and caressing her hair and arms, gently.
Her face was etched in Kai's memory. All the times she had seen her. And even the bloody image that still hurt to remember. And pissed her off too.
All. She could do was hope.

Austin sat in his room. Couldn't sleep. He knew he did the right thing for Zoe but was it right for her health?
If she doesnt make it he will hate himself forever.
Zoe is his best friend. She is a part of him. He cant lose her.
Kai seemed to know what she was doing. She did fix her up and all.
At some point he knew Kai will ask him what happened to Zoe.
I dont wanna betray Zoe but somebody has to do something, she made me promise not to interfere but Kai has no promise to keep.
I have an older sister. Gosh its surreal though. Still getting to know but so far she is awesome.
With a good heart and she isnt a jerk at all.
Have hope. Have hope Austin.
You wont lose your best friend nor lose your sister because you are trying to protect your best friend.
I hope she understands.
She doesnt scare me. Maybe a little bit but not in a bad  way.
I respect her a lot.
Its only been a few days.
But i know my blood.
All i need is a bit of hope.
He grabbed his headphones from the night stand and selected his Best friend playlist.
Gradually sleep came and took him.
Hope. The word he hung onto. Hope.
