Becoming the Alpha Queen

Chapter 16

I stared at the wolf in front of me in disbelief. This wolf was going to be the next Alpha what?

“Uhm Phantom..? I hate to burst your bubble but there is no such thing as an Alpha Queen. There never has been and I doubt there will be, at least not in our lifetime.”

You are very wrong. We will become the first Alpha Queen. Phantom huffed at me because I burst out laughing. How absurd! There is no way that an Alpha Queen could exist, and if that position did, why in the world would the Great Spirit choose me? The only ‘royal’ blood I had in me was being an Alphas daughter and given the packs that were on earth, I was but a small portion of the girls that could potentially be candidates for the same position. My sister could be the Alpha Queen for all I knew.

“Okay okay.” I grinned at Phantom, who had bared her teeth at me in irritation. “I’ll humor you. Say that you are right. How do you know? And also, you know that to be a royal wolf, we need to meet certain ‘criteria’.” I mumbled. I hadn’t gotten to that part of my studies with my dad yet. “My pack isn’t going to want me back because of the silver I have. They’re better off thinking I’m dead. But the only way I can learn that ‘criteria’ is from my father and mother. And I’m not going to put them at risk by going back and having the Night Star pack realize that I’m not dead. If what you’re saying is true, I need to find someone to teach me.”

Phantom stared at me, her ears alert the entire time I was talking. The moment I concluded my little rant, she sheepishly ducked her head.

Well…I don’t know for sure really…I snuck into a meeting the older wolves were having and heard that there was a rumor that there was going to be an Alpha Queen coming in the next generation. Seeing that we hadn’t bonded yet, I thought we might be the ones. But I guess you’re right. There are other females that may take our place…though that number has diminished by two or three.

You snuck into a meeting!? Without us?! A new voice joined the conversation.

Phantom yelped in surprise and whirled around to face where the new voice was coming from. I leaned to the side too see who this voice belonged to. Behind Phantom stood a small black wolf with violet eyes and a larger (but smaller than Phantom) reddish brown wolf with long fur and light brown eyes that glowed in the gentle light that flowed between the trees.

Holly? Fox? Phantom gasped in surprise. What are you guys doing here?

Checking up on you and your human. The black wolf, which I assumed was Holly, replied, wagging her tail gently. You gave everyone a fright, especially us. Don’t ever order us away again.

Holly’s right. The red wolf spoke up. That was foolish of you. You may be our Alpha but that doesn’t mean you have to protect us all the time.

Actually-

“-it does.” Me and Phantom ended up speaking at the same time. All three wolves stared at me. “It is an Alpha’s duty to protect the pack to the best of their abilities, even if it means laying down their life.” I recited, remembering the reading that I had to do during my Alpha training. “Or hurting the ones they love.” I continued. When I had finished the small section I could remember, a pang of guilt and sadness washed over me. Kasei, my baby brother. I had hurt him to protect him. How must he feel right now? Was he okay?

…She’s right. It is an Alpha’s duty to protect the pack. Phantom repeated my words. Since there is no point in arguing or continuing this conversation, I would like to introduce you to my pack. Holly is my Beta and Fox is my Lead warrior. Holly, Fox, this is my human.

“Nice to meet you both. I’m Cynthia.” I murmured. Suddenly it struck me. If I was attached to Phantom and she was an Alpha, did that mean that Holly was the wolf bonded to Nyx? And was Fox the wolf for Steven?

 ….where’s Shadow? Phantom’s voice cut through my thoughts.

Holly and Fox looked at each other then looked down at the floor. Phantom immediately noticed this change in her packmates and stiffened.

Holly, Fox where is my brother?

Brother? I thought. Does that mean this Shadow is Kay’s wolf?

There was no answer from either wolf the second time the question was asked.

You guys didn’t really come here to check up on me did you? You came to tell me something about my brother. Phantom hesitated. How angry is he about what I did to him? How hurt is he?

Well…We don’t really know. Holly mumbled.

You don’t know? Is it too hard to ask him? I know I shouldn’t have done what I did but he can’t be so hurt that he stopped talking to you guys too.

Its not that Phan….

Then what is it? Where is Shadow? Phantom seemed to be getting annoyed by their lack of cooperation because she flattened her ears to the side of her head and bared her teeth slightly. Where is he?

This time it was Fox who answered.

We don’t know Phan. Shadow is gone.

Hello my lovely readers!!!

Look i didnt make you guys wait a month before an upadate :) be happy lol. So how have you all been?! I've been in a good mood! Kinda...sorta...I'm actually failing some classes that im taking so....But enough about that! I also shaved off the side of my head :p But anyway!
