Cristobal's POV
I walked downstairs and left the girl by herself in my room. Once I was in the kitchen, I let out a small sigh. I had never met someone like her because she was so different to anyone in this old town. I had freaked out when I opened that door two nights ago and saw her cradling that wolf in her arms. It took all my strength to not scream and panic. It was almost 2 in the morning when they arrived on the doorstep, and though the sign outside my office said 24/7 Veterinary Service, no one in the town really had serious emergencies so late at night so I had gotten used to the dull night shifts but still stayed at the front desk, snoozing lightly most of the time. The only reason that I hadn't immediately come to the door when she had knocked was because I was outside in the pound, trying to calm the rescues, since something had made them start barking, howling and whining all at the same time. By the time I had managed to get back to the desk, I had only heard the last knock which confused me, since nobody knocks only once.
I was happy that I had decided to check the door anyway, because who knows what would've happened to them if I hadn't. I had taken the wolf first because it was obvious she was in a worse shape than her human companion. I put her on some sedatives and while those went into effect, I went back for the girl who was still laying outside. I had picked her up and brought her to my room which was just above the hospital and tended to her injuries. She was very dehydrated but other than that, there seemed to be no other issue with her, other than the injury on her head which had long since stopped bleeding. I left her resting and went back to the wolf. I was wary, since I had never worked with an undomesticated wolf before, but I had managed to get over my fear and ran diagnostic tests. That had taken most of the night.
I had expected the girl to wake up after a few hours but when she didn't, I decided that she must have been exhausted from whatever they went through but I stayed watching over her for a while. I wished she would've woken up sooner so I could've had her name instead of calling her Silver, which I felt was rude. Instead of lingering on these thoughts, I busied myself with making breakfast for my unexpected guest, though I couldn't get the fact that she was hesitant to give me her name. It bothered me as I was making food, which distracted me from the toast I had put in the toaster and it almost burned. If it wasn't for my sharp sense of smell, it would've set my house, and the clinic and pound, on fire.
"Smells good." A soft voice interrupted me, causing me to yelp and drop the toast. I turned to see Silver standing in front of me, dressed in one of my shirts and shorts. I felt the heat rising in my cheeks at the sight of her and I quickly turned to pick the now ruined toast off the floor.
"Thanks." I managed to stutter, once I regained my composure. "You feel better?"
"Much." She murmured, gliding closer to me.
I looked at her warily and she must have noticed because she gave me a small frown. "I won't bite, you know."
"Oh, n-no. Sorry. I'm just not used to having people over...much less dressed in my clothes. Oh god, I sound like a loner huh? I mean I have friends, but it's just they have school, and I have to take care of everything here so we don't see each other much. And well I never thought that something like this would happen here, such a small town you know? Well no, you wouldn't know, you just woke up here. Do you even know where you are? Do you remember anything? Oh gosh what if you have amnesia and I need to take you to the hospital?" I rambled, unable to stop the words from coming out of my mouth. I took a deep breathe. "I'll shut up now." I mumbled, biting my lip. God, Cristobal, you just have to go and make a fool of yourself in front of this cute girl huh. I thought to myself. I could feel her gaze on me as I argued internally.
