"SHERLOCK"

Sherlock woke up with a jolt. He allowed his eyes to adjust to the sudden light that entered his room. This was his first Christmas with John and it was not off to a good start. He glanced to the side and saw that the time was 7:15am. He groaned in annoyance.

"ITS CHRISTMAS SHERLOCK! GET UP"

Sherlock sighed and replied "I'm well aware of what day it is, John. Now let me sleep." Sherlock was never a fan of Christmas. He never got anything and his brother was always there to mock him.

Suddenly, he felt hands wrap around his ankles and before he could react he was yanked off his bed. He fell onto the floor with a thud.

"Come onnnnnn Sherl, you're brother isn't coming this year. He told me he had some business he had to take care of. It'll just be you and me."

That was a lie...kind of.

John actually told Mycroft that he and Sherlock were out of town for Christmas. He did this because Sherlock got drunk one night and ranted to John about how he hated Christmas and blah blah blah. So Mycroft agreed to come visit for Boxing Day instead...but Sherlock doesn't need to know that.
John was determined to give his best (and only) friend the best Christmas ever.

Hearing the news of his brother not coming this year immediately perked the detective up.

He jumped up and said, "alright then John! Not a moment to waste! Let's go downstairs."

Just before he left his room, he stopped. He then turned around and said almost inaudibly, "I don't actually know what I'm supposed to be doing."

"Wow, that's a first." John said smirking. He then followed with "don't worry, I've got everything planned."

John thought he saw Sherlock do one of his rare, genuine smiles, but he turned away before he could get a good look.

The two men walked, well, ran downstairs.
Sherlock was immediately hit with the smell of gingerbread, peppermint and pine. He looked at John and saw him walking towards the tree. The blond man picked up a medium sized present with Christmas themed wrapping and a red bow. The detective tried his hardest not to guess what it is.

"Here! This is yours." John said with a oh so wholesome smile on his face.

Sherlock took the present, too stunned to speak. He shook his head, "mine first".
He then took a small blue box out of his pocket.  God knows how he managed to grab it on the way out of his room.

John took the possibly delicate object from Sherlocks hand and opened it cautiously.
It was a silver locket that was in the shape of a heart. John looked back up at him and was greeted with a blushing Sherlock.

"It's just so that..we'll you know. If you wanna put a picture of someone in there..yeah."

"Thank you Sherlock, I love it."

Sherlock gave a half smile and locked eyes with John. They stood in silence for 26 seconds exactly before John said, "ok now open yours!"

A wide smile returned to Johns face and he was almost jumping with excitement as he handed Sherlock his gift.

Sherlock tore of the wrapping paper and a blue scarf was revealed. It was a royal blue and made of silk. Embroidered into the bottom of the scarf was:

to Sherlock, from John <3

Tears welled in Sherlocks eyes. No one had ever given him a gift before and this was perfect.
He walked towards John and hugged him.
"Best Christmas Ever"

They spent the rest of the day watching Doctor who and eating.

Two years later

"Hello again Sherlock, merry Christmas."
John says softly as he kisses the silver locket, that now had Sherlocks picture in it.

"Merry Christmas John" Sherlock whispered, holding the scarf in hand. "I'll be back soon..I promise"
