It was a clear night, countless stars were visible in the sky and the moon shone brightly in the darkness. Brown eyes stared into the void, while noise could be heard in the house. Several doors were slammed, loud voices argued with each other and dishes were broken.

The black-haired one was tired, wanting to finally get some rest and go to sleep. Tomorrow his best friend would be awake again and could distract him, tomorrow everything would be better again.

But he was afraid his parents would come into his room and drag him into their argument. That had happened many times before. In the middle of the night he was woken up and shouted at to fix their argument. When he didn't want to, he was beaten and insulted before they left him alone again.

He wanted to prevent that. He could still clearly remember the tears that had haunted him for days afterwards, repeatedly covering his cheeks without him being able to do anything about it.

Cautiously, Skeppy glanced at his cell phone, which layed beside him. He wanted to text Bad, talk to him, distract himself. But at the same time, he didn't want to wake the older one, didn't want to annoy him. Well... one message wouldn't hurt, would it?

A few seconds later, he had his cell phone in his hand and was texting his friend.

Hey, are you awake?
03:24

His eyes widened when Bad answered a few seconds later. Had he woken him up after all?

Hey Muffin, yes I am.
Why are you still up?
03:24

Uncertainly he played with his fingers and thought about what he should answer. He decided to tell the truth.

I can't sleep, what 'bout you?
Did I wake you up? Sorry
03:26

You didn't, Geppy. I can't sleep
either, it's probably the full
moon. How are you doing?
03:27

Not too good, you?
03:27

Why aren't you feeling well?
Are you sick or is it something else?
03:28

Can you call me?
03:30

The second the younger one sent the message, he regretted it. Why would Bad want to call him so late at night? He was an idiot and-

His screen lit up when his best friend called him. Shortly after, he answered the call as well, holding the phone to his ear.

"Hello...?" he asked cautiously, speaking as quiet as he could.

"What's the matter, Skeppy? You never usually ask if we can talk on the phone in the middle of the night...? Is it because you can't sleep or-" the older one was interrupted as the voices grew louder, seemingly coming closer to Skeppy's room.

A soft whimper escaped the black haired boy as he quickly hid his cell phone and pretended to be asleep.

But that didn't stop his parents from barging into his room and demanding that he decides who was in the right of their argument. The brown-eyed man felt panic spreading through him and he stuttered something until he stopped himself and just kept silent.

He couldn't make a decision. He knew that either way he would be hated by his parents no matter what he decided. So he sat on his bed, waiting to be beat up by his makers, forgetting that Bad was listening to all of it.

And the punches came. There were more than last time, they were stronger and would surely leave bruises. Only after the pain-bringers had left, the tears began to flow. A quiet sob escaped him as he looked over to his phone and quickly pressed a hand on his mouth.

Bad.

Carefully, he picked up the phone and held it to his ear, but there was complete silence. Had he hung up on him? Surely... After all, it was late at night and he surely wanted to sleep.

So the black-haired man continued to sob to himself and hid under his blanket, when suddenly someone rushed into his room. Startled, he flinched, not daring to make another sound.

"Skep- Zak?" sounded the worried voice of his best friend, to which he peeked out from under the covers and spotted the green-eyed one in front of him.

The latter hastily ran to him and carefully sat down next to him before gently giving him a hug.

"Shhh, it's okay... I'm here, alright? You're safe, no one's gonna hurt you anymore," Bad whispered softly next to his ear, causing the smaller one to snuggle closer and cry quietly into his sweater.

The brown-haired one stayed with him until he calmed down, whispering soothing words and stroking the younger one's back. Eventually the tears stopped flowing and calm returned to the brown-eyed one's body. As the taller held Skeppy a few centimetres away from him and looked at him, it quickly occurred to him that he had fallen asleep.

A tentative smile graced the older one's lips as he lifted his best friend up and hugged him protectively. Shortly after, he carried him out of the house and into his car, which was parked in front of the building.

After a few minutes they arrived at Bad's apartment, where he took the smaller one inside of it, to his bedroom. He kindly took care of his injuries before the brown-haired man covered his friend with a blanket and sat down next to him on a chair.

Only when the sun had risen far up in the sky, the brown eyes of the younger slowly opened. Tired, he looked around and shortly after caught sight of his best friend, who had fallen asleep next to him on a chair. His head was resting on the bed and the soft hair tempted him to touch it.

So Skeppy did just that, playing with the brown strands while he got lost in his thoughts. Thus, he didn't notice Bad waking up and watching him, smiling.

"Good morning, Geppy," sounded softly from the taller one after a while, causing the brown-eyed one to flinch in fright and hastily remove his hand.

"B-bad!" he exclaimed quietly in a whining voice and sat up.

Smiling, his counterpart did the same. "I've taken care of your injuries, I hope that's okay. How are you feeling at the moment?"

"Definitely...better. Thank you, Daryll," cautiously the smaller one sought eye contact and got it shortly after.

"That's the least I could do. If you'd said something sooner, we could have prevented all this.... You know you can always come to me no matter what," Bad's voice was soft and concerned.

Skeppy nodded tentatively. "I know, I'm sorry-"

"Shut up you muffin," the brown-haired one interrupted him before he could even utter the unfounded apology.

"But-"

"Shh," soft lips pressed down on the smaller one's, stifling any further sound that wanted to leave the latter's mouth. Skeppy's eyes widened in shock before he slowly melted into the kiss, wrapping his arms around the older's neck.

And thus began a series of loving kisses the two exchanged and enjoyed.
