It was a dark, rainy day, most of the people were at home or walking with umbrellas in hand. Little kids were playing in puddles, grinning from ear to ear. The brown haired boy walked through the rain, eyes looking at the ground and shoulders sunken low. His whole life was so quiet, he couldn't hear anything and slowly it was driving him insane. His parents were always talking to each other, he saw their mouths moving and them laughing at each other. He wanted to be happy too, wanted to have someone to listen to, to laugh and spend the rest of his life with. But of course, he would never find someone like that. He would never find his soulmate, his one and only, his other half. He didn't believe someone like that existed in this world. Even if he didn't believe in something like a god, he knew whatever chose the soulmates hated him.
His parents met each other at 19. They went to the same school together and fell in love instantly. Or, at least that's what they always told him. The boy knew he should trust his parents, since they're probably the only ones to ever want him, but he still couldn't believe in something like that. Love at first sight. Huh.
His legs carried him to the park, where he sat on a wet bench and watched the rain fall. He wanted to hear it hitting the ground, wondered what sound it would make. His parents always told him it was a nice, relaxing sound, so he wanted to find out.
Ah, right. You probably have no idea what's going on here. Let me explain it to you.
The boy I'm talking about is called George. He has soft, brown hair and sad dark brown eyes, his face is very pretty, he's 25 years of age and around 5.8 inches tall. He likes the color blue and wears it most of the time, his clothes are always comfy and he likes to play videogames or read books. In his world, everyone is deaf until they meet their soulmate. So, since George haven't met his yet, he can't hear anything.
Most of the people his age have either found their soulmates already or killed themselves. Even if he didn't have any hope in finding his person soon, he still never thought of doing something to himself. He had his parents, they took good care of him and gave him everything he needed.
You may wonder now, why they killed themselves, but let me tell you- they couldn't get a job. Nobody wants someone who's deaf and sad, probably always distracted and not doing the job correct. So, they don't get hired, no matter where they ask for a job. Without any money, food or a place to stay, everyone would get desperate, wouldn't they? I think you understand now, why it would be easier to kill yourself instead of living off of hope.
George was just very lucky. His parents earned a lot of money, so it was easy for them to care for him. They even bought him everything he could think of- he only used half of the stuff he got. That didn't mean he wasn't happy about it, he just didn't really need it. Most of the time he offers his things to other people who don't get along as well as him, so he can at least help them a little bit.
A body weighed down the bench next to him, and as the brown haired man went to look at the person next to him, his whole world seemed to light up. Suddenly, everything was very loud and he heard the rain hit the ground, the wind rustling the leaves of the trees around him, birds singing their melodies and a shocked gasp escaping the man in front of him.
Pure happiness rushed through George's body, a big smile plastered on his face, his eyes shining while taking in the features of the person who supposedly was his soulmate. He was super excited to hear him speak as the blonde haired stranger opened his mouth, the first words he would ever say in his life being:
"No, this.. can't be. I'm not gay"
And with that, he jumped up from the bench and ran away. Leaving behind the pretty brown eyed boy all on his own, heart shattered into pieces and his happiness destroyed by such simple words. The first words he ever heard in his life. Even the rain seemed to be sad, getting worse by every second, spending George the only comfort he had left now.
