Change can be amazing – The Neighbouhood.
Jesse POV
I had no idea what to do when her name appears on the screen of my phone. How could she call? It's impossible. I've called and called her and there was never an answer how is it that after 2 years she just magically picks up her phone and decides to call me. I don't understand. When something big happens in life whether it be a good or bad thing it will always, always have some sort of an effect on you. And she was the biggest effect that ever happened to me and let me tell you it was not a good one. So when her name appears on my screen I do the only logical thing I can think of. Ignore it. She might never call again and if so I just missed my chance to speak to my best mistake.
"Jesse, are you going to answer that?" I hear Abbie sweet voice asking me.
I look over at her and slowly shake my head no. The ringing finally stops and I take a big breath and close my eyes, my legs can't handle my weight so I decide it's best if I sit down. Abbie sits down next to me and neither of us talks. For 5 minutes the two of us just sit there staring out at the street taking the time to think. I look over at Abbie a few times and I can tell she's in deep thought probably wondering who the hell Sage is. Even thinking her name makes my heart hurt. After everything that happened it makes me wonder where she is, is she better than she was before? I guess I'll never know because I didn't answer the stupid phone call. What's wrong with me? Hearing her voice would be so comforting to me. I really need comfort right now, Sage she just makes everything better. But I missed my chance because I'm such an idiot. I'm stopped by my deep thinking when my phone rings again I take a deep breath as does Abbie before I look down at my phone. 'Mom' I sigh and answer the phone.
"Jesse, honey where are you?" Her worried voice asks me,
"I'm just outside mom," I tell her
"Are you on your own? Jesse, it's 4:30 in the morning what the hell are you doing out on your own. You know it's dangerous."
"I'm with Abbie mom there's no need to worry I can look after myself." a reason why she worries is because of Sage.
"Are you two going to be out much longer because as I said its da-"
"Dangerous, yes I know." I cut her off.
"Jesse just comes home now please I do not want to spend my morning worrying." She doesn't ask me, she tells me.
"Okay, mom I'll be home now," I tell her and end the call.
I look over at Abigail asking for permission if I can leave, she nods her head.
"You go! We'll talk later." She says with a smile on her face, I smile back at her I can't say it's a real one because it's defiantly forced, I turn around and start walking away. I walk in through the front door and mom is stood in the kitchen with a cup of tea on her hand. I look her in the eye and she knows me well enough to realize that there's something wrong.
"What's happened?" She asks with a look of terror in her eye.
"She called mom." The cup falls from her hand and smashes on the floor.
"What do you mean she called? We haven't heard from her in two years Jesse. It couldn't have been her." She says her eyes turn dark for a second but then her soft look is back.
"It was her mom. I know what I saw." I tell her looking at the ground.
"Saw. What do you mean saw didn't you answer the call?" She says her voice raising a tad.
I shake my head slowly, I was too much of an idiot to answer the bloody call. What the hell is wrong with me?
"I'm scared mom, what if it happens again her calling me is not a good thing for me. I don't want to go off the edge again." I say with a tear slipping from my eye.
