I wake to the sound of my phone beeping. I roll over with a groan and pick it up, squinting I see that it's a text from an unknown number. I rub my eyes and open the message.
Meet me at our place. Or should I say yours ;) - J x
I'm guessing the J stands for Jesse. Why the hell does he want me to go to the star stoppers at 2:12 in the freaking morning? Oh, this better be good. I get out of bed and quickly put on some jeans and my converse. I yawn whilst walking down the stairs quietly trying not to wake anyone. I leave a note on the fridge just in case someone realizes I'm gone. I slip out of my house as quiet as I can and start to make my way to our place as he called it. How did this even happen? One minute I'm Abbie the loner, the next thing you know I'm sneaking out of my house in the middle of the night to go meet a boy in my special place. That sounded dirtier than I thought it would. I get to the entrance of star stoppers and I see him sitting down on the ground leaning his back on the tree. The moonlight is the only thing that gives him away. I walk over to him but I'm too scared to say anything so I just sit down next to him. He jumps in fright when he sees me and I chuckle lightly and then another yawn escapes my mouth.
"So what was so important that you had to wake me up at this time and not just wait until the morning?" I wonder out loud,
"To be honest, it is actually morning, so I'm not really doing anything wrong." He jokes.
"Hardy-Ha-Ha. Seriously though what's up?" I ask him my tone going from light to serious in record time. He sighs and his hand runs through his hair. I can tell he's stressing over something but I don't want to pry into his business.
"If we're being honest I just couldn't sleep and umm ... Ahh, I don't really know." He gives up on trying to explain himself. He looks up at the sky and smiles.
"The stars are out tonight." He says sighing in content. I look up at the sky and smile, he's right. They're definitely out tonight. I scoot up from the tree and lay my back down on the ground. I hear Jesse moving and I look over and now see his head resting on the ground right beside me. I smile at him then focus my eyes back at the stars again.
"I have this thing for stars," I say, not to anyone more like to myself.
"Really, why's that?" Jesse sounds pretty interested,
"They're pretty special to me, basically, there are some really important people to me up in the sky. I like to think that they're a few of those stars. It must sound stupid to anyone else." I laugh a pity laugh to myself. Just because I sound so helpless.
"I've never thought of it that way before." He says simply. Not mocking me like I thought he would.
"So... New friend I don't really know much about you." There's a hint of curiosity in my voice.
"That's very true new friend, well what is it you wanna know?" He asks not caring that I wanted to know more about him.
"Okay umm let's start with a nice simple question, how old are you since you can drive?" I ask
"I turn eighteen in a few months." That doesn't make any sense.
"How come you're in my year then, shouldn't you be in what your second year of college or sixth form right now not year eleven with me?" I ask him, it's April 20th today so that means I only have a few months left in school until I go to college. I look over at Jesse and see that he looks a little uncomfortable.
"I missed my original year eleven because umm... I was eh- going through some things." He says not feeling sure on what he should say to me.
"Oh well, it's a good thing you got the chance to do it again," I say not really sure on what I should say. I mean I would love to know why he missed that year of school but I don't want to seem nosey. How can I ask him about his past if I won't answer any of his questions? That's why I'm not prying.
