Chapter 11. Unexpected Trouble

Andy's POV

I awoke before the crack of dawn and slipped out from under Lourdes who was sound asleep from training yesterday. I threw on my jacket and walked out of the hut the Rebels had given us for our stay. Looking up at the sky I noticed the stars were fading so the sunrise wasn't going to be long.

I started walking through the quiet compound taking in the sights I hadn't been able to see in the rush yesterday. They all had done such a great job starting a new life, free from the corruption of F.E.A.R It isn't the best life for anyone but it was the best they had and they did what they could.

Soon I was at the gate and looked down at the two boys who were left on guard duty before placing my hands on their shoulders. They looked up at me and followed me with their eyes as I crouched down to their level.

"Why don't you both go get some sleep? I will stand and watch guard until the others wake up. You both did a great job." They smiled at me, making me smile back.

"We aren't tired though we just traded about a hour ago. We will stand watch with you Mr. Prophet."

"Alright, if you insist." I stood up and looked at the horizon and saw the first rays of a blood red sun.

Off in the distance I could just barely make out a black figure which I immediately knew was a Shadow agent. They had been watching us all night probably hoping to get some information on us but we were too smart for them. We trained in closed off areas so they couldn't see what we were doing just because I had a feeling they would watch us and my feelings were right.

I noticed another figure out in the distance but it looked like it was coming toward us. I tightened my grip on the Rebel boys shoulder, readying in case it was an attacker. The Shadow Agent turned, watching whoever it was and started after it so I knew it had to be a Rebel. I grabbed the binoculars quickly and looked through them only to find out that it was Lourdes! I threw the binoculars down and pulled the gate open. What the hell was she doing? She was supposed to be asleep still!

"Get the rest of The Wild Ones now! It's very urgent!" The wide eyed boys ran off as I began running toward my Girlfriend, trying to reach her before the Shadow agent did.

"Lourdes! Run faster! What the fuck are you doing out here!" She must have not heard me cause she kept running at the same pace. I pushed myself to run faster and reached her just before the Shadow agent did. She stopped and pulled out her headphones just as I grabbed her wrist and tried pulling her with me back to the compound.

"Andy what's wrong I was just taking a run." She resisted and I knew she had no idea the kind of danger we were in right now. I hadn't had the chance to tell her that we were being watched.

"We are in serious danger right now! Why the fuck are you taking a run outside the compound? Never mind explain later, run now!" It was too late though the Shadow agent had already reached up and raised it's staff to attack. I pushed Lourdes to the side and caught the staff right in my side, leaving a huge gash. I placed my hand on my side, and in that quick second the agent was already towering over her and had her in his grasp.

I ran toward them, ignoring the searing pain from my side and tried to fight back but he was an elusive bastard and it didn't help that I was losing a lot of blood. I just hoped to hold him off until the others came.

I reached out and grabbed Lourdes hand with my blood stained hand and kicked the agent in the back as hard as I could but he twirled around and caught me right across my chest but this time he had only grazed me enough to draw blood and knock me down before walking away. I reached my hand out toward Lourdes just as my vision grew black and I faded into darkness.
