Chapter 18. Tricked

CC's POV

Due to my excruciating pain, Jinxx and I had fallen behind a few times but the group stopped and waited, allowing me to rest a few minutes before we carried on. Now I know what Andy went through when he had broken his. We finally reached the gate a few hours later and the siren blared overhead. We watched as the rest of the Rebels and the girls ran up to the gate and pushed it open to allow us to enter. Michelle threw her hands over her mouth when she saw the shape I was in and ran over to us, tears in her eyes.

"I'm okay. It's just a few broke ribs. I will be fine babe." I smiled at her through the pain and watched as the rest of the Rebels strode past us, some of them carrying the injured toward the medical hut, the others went to join the younger ones and introduce the new additions to the family.

"We need to get you to the hut as well and get you checked out. Jinxx can you bring him? I'm going to go get things situated with the new arrivals and make a place for you to rest. I'm glad you are safe dear." Michelle leaned up and kissed me, careful not to touch my chest, and I kissed her back before she ran off. I looked over at Jinxx and nodded, tightening my grip on his shoulder as we began to walk to the hut slowly.

Andy's POV

I watched the Rebels leave our sides and joined the rest that were standing by the gate to the compound. I walked inside the gates and over to a clear area. Ana made her way through the crowd and over to me but didn't take her eyes off of the girl I was carrying in my arms. Her expression saddened with each stride as she came closer and stopped in front of me. I lowered the girls body and set her on the ground softly.

"What happened?" Ana knelt down reached her hand out touching the girls cheek softly.

"She was one of the first we rescued. She made a run for it and one of the Shadows that were left attacked her before we could get to her." I stayed knelt down on the opposite side of Eve and felt someone next to me so I looked over to find Sam. She looked down at her friend and I could see the silent tears making their way down her face. I sighed and put my hand on her shoulder.

"Is she the only one?" I drew my attention from Sam and looked at Ana who was staring at me.

"Sadly no, a few others didn't make it either but what troubles me is that a few more ran off along with Eve and we didn't see them in the desert. I think they might still be out there and alive. We will need to find them before any remaining Shadows find them or they die from dehydration." I drew my hand from Sam's shoulder and put them on my knees, pushing off and stood up.

"I am coming with you this time since The Destroyer is injured. Some of my students will help Michelle with the wounded." I could see Ana's determination but something felt off about her. I tried to put my finger on it but gave up a few minutes later when I couldn't place it.

"Okay be ready in 10 minutes. We are going to rest and then be off again. Jake come help me carry her to the preparation tables and we will care for her later." Ana took off as Jake walked to where Ana was just standing and helped me pick Eve up, taking her to the preparation table. I lit up a cigarette as we walked back to the gate and sat down beside Jinxx and Ashley.

They began talking but I zoned out lost in my thoughts like always. After a few minutes Ana came back and I finally snapped out of it, standing up and wiped the dirt off of my jeans.

"Ready?" I looked at every one of them then turned toward the gate.

"Ready." They said it simultaneously and followed as we began back out into the desert.

"How are we going to be able to find them out here? They could be anywhere..." Jinxx stopped after we had been walking quite some time and shook his head.
