You still can't believe that they're by your side right now. They're all grown up, and you can't help but have tears weld up in your eyes. Your eyes fog up, and the clouds of tears in your eyes, and as you try to look at your children without crying, Light Spinner holds you as she explains the plan.
"The failsafe is not easy to obtain. It has a mind and will of its own. Its power is not one that can be compared to anything else we've ever encountered as magicians, and certainly, it is more powerful than anything that you've experienced in Brightmoon," Light Spinner started.
"How are we going to get it if it's so powerful?" Adora interrupted.
Light Spinner's face was drained by the thought of what she was going to say next. "I hate that I have to say this to you, dear. Adora, you have to obtain the failsafe as Shera. I know that is a tall order, but anyone else attempting to obtain it will be instantly obliterated by the sheer energy from it. Shera is the only one strong enough to absorb the power of the first ones as she was a first one. Do you understand what we are asking of you?" Light Spinner answered.
"Why is it always Adora? Why for once why can't it be me?" Catra interjected.
"I wish it wasn't Adora. If I could obtain it, I would do it in a heartbeat and not think twice about it. Catra, you and I both know that in Mystacor artifacts are so powerful that they will kill the most powerful and experienced in an instant," Light Spinner replied.
"I would give my life knowing that you would be safe. I want to obtain the failsafe. I'm sorry Beatrix," you added.
"No (parental title mom, dad, parent, etc.), I won't let you. I can't imagine my life without you. I have to be the one that does this. I'm ready." Adora argued.
"Alright. I just don't think it's fair that one of my girls has to go do it for us."
"Technically, Shera isn't your daughter. She's some other dead people's daughter, so she isn't technically your daughter," Catra commented.
"Shera is an entity, and that entity is inside of my daughter. Therefore, that entity is also a part of my daughter. A part that I am not willing to sacrifice without knowing that my daughter is okay with this. I know I won't be able to stop you from taking the failsafe, but I know that this is dangerous. Unfortunately, I learned as I read the Ancient Mystacor Texts that these caves are going to destroy anyone who attempts to take the failsafe, and fuck I'm surprised we're still here without being broken down. I won't lose any of you. For any reason, and I know in my heart that if something were to happen that I would never forgive myself." you snapped. The tears clouded in your eyes come out as your rain. The rain of truth boiled to the surface on bubbles on life is bullshit soup.
As you fall to your knees, everyone around you doesn't know what to do. You've never really shown this much pain in your eyes, and in your words carry a sense of anxiety that nobody ever acknowledged until now. It's as if they were oblivious to everything you were thinking. Every scenario that could happen but most likely won't, the gut feeling that something isn't right about this place from the beginning, and knowing that at any moment any of the people you hold dear can slip away. The entire cave fell silent hearing your cries for help. Everything eating inside you for your entire life has finally gotten to you and consumed you with this feeling that you can't shake.
Light Spinner is the first to drop to the ground to comfort you. Her green eyes pull you into every word she says. "Sweetheart, I know this isn't fair. Life isn't fair. Especially when our life is war, a war on not only against the Horde but a war within ourselves. We have to fight our own battles. You can't hold our children back forever. They have to fight their own battles on their own too. They're able to do it. You just have to believe in them. Also, we will still love you no matter what happens. Good or bad we will always love you as you are," Light Spinner reassured you as she embraced you in a hug.
"What if this doesn't work and Adora dies? I can't let that happen."
"I won't. Shera will be strong enough to handle the energy from the failsafe. I promise mom went over the magical specs of the failsafe while you were ranting on about how life is a bitch," Adora stated.
"Plus, Adora knows how power works. She's been able to handle the moonstone in Brightmoon and harness it. I think she can harness the failsafe too," Catra added.
"Um, I'm useless to this conversation, but I definitely have faith in Adora. If she dies, then I'm next in line right?" Kyrion exclaimed.
"You're such an idiot Kyrion," Catra remarked.
"I believe the term is useless," Kyrion reminded Catra.
"No, it's not. Read the damn dictionary," Catra argued.
"Alright. Both of you, that is enough," Adora interjected.
"Your time to shine kiddo. Go get that failsafe girlboss," you muffled out as you wipe your tears.
"Omg, stop it," Adora replied with annoyance in her voice.
Adora walks up to the failsafe. Crystal towers go around a crystal circle. She steps inside, but before she does, she gives one last look at you and the rest of the family before she accepts the failsafe. Adora screams in pain as she turns to Shera and the teal bolts of energy zap her giving her the failsafe.
You hear footsteps as Adora takes the failsafe. A lump arises in your throat. Someone is here. Someone is here to hurt them. Someone chipped. They had heard rumors right before adventuring to the caves that people were starting to be chipped by Horde Prime. The footsteps grow louder and closer behind you. You turn behind you to see two sorcerers behind you with violet eyes and anger beneath them. You instantly recognize them. Norwyn and Micah. You jolt with horror and throw blasts at them which grab the attention of Light Spinner and Kyrion.
"CATRA, STAY BACK AND MAKE SURE ADORA GETS THE FAILSAFE AND THAT SHE'S OKAY!" you yelled before lunging at Micah.
Dark magic gets thrown across the room, and the three of you have no choice but to hurt the people you've taught and who've taught you. You wish this wasn't this way, but yet you remember Light telling you that the most important war is against ourselves. It's in this moment that you have the chance to destroy your fears, or this could be the moment to cower. However, with your fears ready as adrenaline, you cast a powerful stunning spell. As you plant your hand into the ground, Micah and Norwyn's anger turns to fear as the red magic you thrust down throws them back into the wall. Light Spinner sprints over to them and strikes the back of their necks to take off the chips. Finally, two of the strongest sorcerers in all of Etheria were freed.
"Wha- what happened?" Micah asked rubbing his head in confusion.
"Light Spinner? Where are we? What happened to us?" Norwyn added holding out his hand and Light Spinner helping him to his feet.
"Long story short, you were chipped by Horde Prime, but now you're not because we are so amazing. Also, we got the failsafe to the heart. We don't have much time, and two sorcerers as powerful as you are needed on the ground fighting. We can handle things on our own down here, but they need reinforcements in Brightmoon and all across Etheria. Make sure that you do everything you can. We need as much time as we can," Light Spinner explained.
"Nice. I missed you. Where can I find Glimmer and Angella these days?" Micah asked.
"Oh, they're in Brightmoon as always. I think it would be amazing if you could help them. They're being attacked the most by the Horde right now," Light Spinner replied.
"Alright. We need to leave. Good luck everyone!" Norwyn exclaimed as he drew a teleportation spell back to the surface.
Within seconds the two were gone. You could tell the kids were tired, so you set up a camp with the few things you do have for everyone. You hope that everything is safe to last the night. Ultimately, you and Light Spinner decide to take turns being guardians of the camp to ensure the safety of the kids.
I just hope for the unstoppable force of family, for our friends to be invincible, and for all of Etheria to power through and fight until the bitter end. Norwyn always said this to Light Spinner when she was younger, and it carried a sort of peace inside of you now. It's funny isn't it. Three words meaning the same thing being so different. We are unstoppable, we are invincible, we are powerful.
