Emily Anderson's life was completely ordinary for an English girl brought up in London. She attended school 5 days a week, had two history buff parents, and had honestly had an uncomplicated childhood for the most part. Her father worked as a book restoration expert for the British Museum's reading room. Whereas her mother had been completing her PHD in Naval, Conflicts and Theoretical History, for the last 5 years and was due to complete it in August. It was currently July 16th and summer holidays was in sight, having only one exam is Computer Science left to complete.
"Hey Emmy,"
"Morning Anders,"
"Sup,"
"Hey," came the flurry of greeting from her friends as they met outside the library near their school. She was dressed in a long brown skirt, DM boots, and a dark green turtleneck jumper. Her saddle bag swinging at her side.
"Good morning, does everyone feel ready for the exam." Her question received only glancing eyes between her friends.
"What?" She asked in exasperation.
"Come on Emmy, you're the only one here who feels ready. Exams have always just been so easy for you, like the questions always happen to be on the topics you know best." Her friend Allya replied. She was a short, wide girl with wonderful posture for someone who was only 16. She was liked by everyone and everyone liked who she liked. Her black bobbed hair easily grazed the sides of her face as she titled her head in frustration at Emmy.
"What? All I do is study a lot and sometimes I'm lucky. I mean aren't we here to study so that the questions seem easy?" A series of steady agreed yeses and uh huhs fooled this rhetoric as Emmy led the way to their usual study table, that comfortably seated 6 people.

It was August 14th when the news came from America, or rather from Annapolis, Maryland. Located in the so called great USA, however this was not great news for Emily.
The day was just breaking when newly titled Dr Amelia Anderson, yelled through the house in excitement. So loudly she woke her daughter who had been drifting through the realm of sleep, not a worry in her head.
"Morning mum," Emily greeted her smiling mum. The sun had barely risen and yet a full breakfast was laid out across the table. "Have you been up all night?"
"No, don't be silly dear. I woke up at 5, I was just bubbling with anticipation and couldn't sleep," The grin on Dr Anderson's face seemed to grow another inch.
"Anticipation of what?" A curious spark glistening in her eye as she watched the pure joy on her mums face.
"Of a job offer, my dream job! At the US Naval Academy Museum, as director."
"That's amazing mum!" Only then did it truly register what her mum had said. "Wait, US, as in America. As in, we'd have to move." Panic started to seep into her voice.

It was August 29th, and Emily's life was ending. Maybe that was dramatic but to a teenager what is life but school, friends and their ideas of the future. She had lost it all.
It had taken a couple days for her dad to be persuaded. He was hesitant to leave his current position as it was rather prestigious but it was a third of the pay her mum was going to receive. So the decision was made, her parents had picked out a school, received their VISAs, purchased a house and they would leave in a week. The London house was packed, they weren't going to sell it which was some comfort but they were going to rent it out while they lived in America. Amelia and Daryl spoke in whispers around the house as they moved the boxes around, fearful of Emily's permanently reddened eyes and cheeks. There was no going back though.
Saying goodbye to her friends was incredibly difficult. With promises of keeping in touch and weekly video calls, she put on a fake smile and hugged each of them goodbye.

After 5 hours at the airport, the plane took off. Emmy sent out a silent prayer and goodbye as she left the place she called home to this lonely new place.
